Miles for Lewiston

This summer, I met two coaches from a high school in Lewiston Maine. They have a 40% to 60% Somali refugee population. They see hundreds of these kids participate in their xc and track programs yearly who are in need of basic training gear and often are running in shoes with holes in them. The coaches do what they can to help, providing snacks to supplement their free school lunch, which is often their only meal, but they can only do so much. Once I heard their story, i was compelled to help in any way I could. The North Middlesex cross country and track teams are hoping to raise as much as possible to help these kids get the proper training gear and food for when they are traveling to and from meets. We are hoping we can get sponsors for the miles we run this season, dedicating all of it to the Lewiston HS cross country and track teams. Every mile we run will be for them. Will you help us reach and or exceed our goal?

A word from one of the Lewiston coaches:

"Thanks so much Suzanne, the kids will be so thrilled to have some quality gear to train in. We had one of our cross country runners run a race Friday with 2 huge holes in the heels of his shoes. I didn't see it till the race was over and he was complaining about how his feet hurt during the race. There is such a huge need. Thank you for taking on this challenge, it will be a big plus for all our kids."

I believe as members of the human race, when we learn about others who are in need we have a responsibility to help in whatever way we can. The kids of Lewiston Maine is a story of overcoming obstacles such as poverty, wearing holes in their shoes, to being the best that they can be.
