On April 29, 2016, a team of Des Moines Public Schools youth, under the direction of local and national artists Asphate and LETER, began the construction of a 200 foot mural on the floodwall behind Central Campus. The mural was set to be completed on Monday, May 16 with a tribute to Kendall Foster who was tragically killed last month, but it was painted over by a private contractor hired by city officials due to a "miscommunication." We owe it to the artists and the youth of Movement 515's Color Control to allow them to finish what they started.

How about instead of raising money (which probably DOES need to be done!) we DEMAND that the City of Des Moines departments that did this PAY THE COSTS out of their budgets, and DEMAND that they publicly apologize contritely and sincerely in person to the kids that did the mural? THAT would have a long term effect.

My heart sank for those kiddos when I read the initial story of this very unfortunate event. I hope they can complete this awesome piece for our city without any further hassles.
