Sunday’s medical expenses

Donation protected
Hello, I am setting up this GoFundMe page to help my friend Rafael Taft who is a good man and great father who is too proud to ask for help for himself. These donations will go to help buy a wheelchair accessible van and pay medical bills for Sunday, a beautiful little girl who has a big bright Texas smile. She is the granddaughter of Harold Taft, meteorologist for NBC DFW and Rafael is an Army Veteran and currently a Police Officer with the City of Grand Prairie. I am honored to call Rafael my friend and hope anyone who can, will donate to help this amazing little girl and make her life even better.

Here is Rafael’s story in his own words.

My name is Rafael Taft and I am the, recently divorced, proud father of a super sweet, super tough, four year old little lady, named Sunday Dawn. I am a U.S. Army veteran of Desert Storm, served two tours in Operation Iraqi Freedom, with the State Department, helping to set up and train the new Iraqi police force and have been a police officer for just over 20 years but this only served to prepare me for my greatest challenge, having a special needs child. When Sunday was only two weeks old she was found to have hydrocephalus and had to have a shunt placed to help drain the fluid from her brain. Sunday was also diagnosed with dystonia, tracheomalacia and petit ganglia.

Sunday is unable to sit up, stand or walk and is unable to talk. Sunday has had to undergo several surgeries, due to her multiple conditions and as of April 2016, recently had her 14th surgery and will still need many more in the near future. Through all of this Sunday continues to inspire everyone with her ever-present smile!

Sunday is confined to a wheelchair and loves to get out of the house, whenever possible. She also loves to ride in the car and see new sights! This is becoming more and more challenging, simply due to Sunday growing, like any other child. She is quickly outgrowing her car seat and we will soon be limited on how she is transported to doctor's appointments, the hospital and simply going to the park. Due to Sunday's continued medical needs, my finances have been stretched to the limits. I am trying to save money in order to purchase a wheelchair accessible van and am in desperate need of help, as my divorce has affected my credit.

Those who know me, know that I'm not the kind of person to ask for help, but like any parent, would do whatever it takes to help my little girl! I am a man of strong Christian faith and know that my Lord will provide for our needs. I truly believe that God is in control and has lead me down this path in asking for the help and support of others, not as a "handout" but to show the power of prayer and to glorify Him.
