Certification Tuition

I am a Teach For America corps member, and taught in Baltimore for two years. To this day, I have never met a more dynamic staff of individuals as the ones I worked with every day. I teamed with the most amazing families and students who had the best state test reading data in the school. I am very proud to be a TFA alum, and loved the chance to work in Baltimore City Schools.

Unfortunately, there are a lot of strings that are tied in to teaching, certification courses, and tenure in BCPS. During my first year, I took courses at Hopkins to get certified. Baltimore City agreed to take on 75% of my tuition, so long as I was contracted to teach a third year. I had hoped this would be possible.

Although I had some of the best data in the school, and strong relationships with families, I was non-renewed by my administration. I was not going to be allowed to teach at my placement school, nor would my principal sign me to teach at another school in BCPS. I had no other option; I had to leave the network.

Because of this, I have an outstanding balance of $3,600 to cover the tuition costs of my certification classes. This is money I have not budgeted to pay, as I did not think it would be required for me, as I was considered non-renewed. 

Your gift towards eradicating this outstanding bill will be endlessly appreciated. I have been so happy to teach in Baltimore City, and your gift will be a beautiful, if bittersweet, close to a chapter that brought me my beginnings in teaching and a love of learning for all of our kids.

The agencies of Baltimore City and Hopkins will require the money by the first of August. Any contributions would be tremendously helpful and appreciated.
