Sabrina Andersen is the 10-month old daughter of Matt and Amanda Andersen of Lincoln. In January 2016, Sabrina was diagnosed with Acute Myeloid Leukemia (AML) , which has attacked her lymph nodes and bone marrow. She is currently undergoing chemotherapy treatments at Children's Hospital in Omaha. While the current prognosis is positive, Sabrina's battle with this disease has just begun and she and her family have a long road ahead. Her treatment lowers her white blood cell count (making her more susceptible to sickness/infections), so she must stay in a negative pressure room at the hospital during each 30-day-long treatment. Doctors have told them to expect at least 6 months before there's a chance that the cancer goes into remission.
Here's why I'm asking for your generosity of a donation to this family:
Aside from the emotional and physical exhaustion that they will all go through, a tragic event like this most assuredly will have a financial impact on them as well. Matt is employed with the Nebraska State Patrol's IT Division and has remained committed to working as many hours as he can while still taking time off to be with his daughter and wife during treatments/procedures.
Amanda is a school teacher in Lincoln and must use all of her accrued sick leave in order to stay at Sabrina's side.
How your donation will help:
Obviously there will be medical expenses incurred with Sabrina's treatment. But there will also be additional costs such as fuel for Lincoln-Omaha commutes; food while away from home; lodging for overnight stays in Omaha; missed hours from work that aren't covered by sick/vacation leave. Many other things that most of us cannot even think of unless we were in the situation. ALL donations will go directly to Matt and Amanda to help alleviate some of the financial burden. My hope is that by alleviating just a small part of that burden, they can focus more of their emotional energy toward Sabrina.
