 WASHINGTON GROVE, MD
Sadly, Malcom Winffel was the victim on May 6  of a random act of violence. As many of you already know, there was a shooting at Montgomery Mall in Bethesda Maryland. A stranger approached a woman and open fired upon her.  Malcom lost his life saving her life. Anyone who knew him, knows that he was always trying to help.  He was an active member of his church and very involved in his children's lives.  Malcom was always laughing and joking and could find the positive in everything.  He made everyone around him laugh.  He will be missed more than words could ever say. Malcom leaves behind his wife, Norma, and 2 children, Brandon and Kayla. Please help us raise money towards his funeral expenses and towards Kayla and Brandon's educational expenses to help support the family in the upcoming very difficult time. Every dollar will be greatly appreciated. Thank you for your support.

It has been just a little over a month since we lost Malcom Winffel. We want to thank each and every person who has made a donation to Gofundme account. We are forever grateful for the kindness and generosity of not only our friends and family but from people we have never met before. Mike touched everyone in his life with a smile and kindness and you each have now touched our hearts with the same love. Thank you for the notes and the memories that you all have shared. The outpouring of support from our community has been unbelievable and words can never express our gratitude. Thank you so much!

I knew Mike from work at Carderock. Back in February I slipped on ice and got a concussion, it was dark and no one was around except Mike and Carl. Mike was the first to run to my side to help me, he picked up all my things on the sidewalk and walked me to my office. Through my weeks of recovery he would come to my office to see if I was ok. He was truly a kind selfless person. Who'd do anything for anyone. He will be missed by many... Especially his constant smile and contagious happiness.

I had the privilege to joke with Mike one more time before his life was tragically taken from us. If anyone who knew him knows that he was a jokester when it came to football and anything for that matter. Such a kind and nice person that the world will truly miss out on his presents. I deepest thought and prayers go out to his family and friends. #jesusgainedanotherhero

I only got to meet him a few times at a few family gatherings and when I heard these news I had to pull my car over and just sit. This hurt like he was my own family. I remember him being a loud and funny guy. He had a lot of presence and was real friendly. I feel for his family. I really hope that they turn out okay and I know he will forever be remembered as a heroic person. He put himself in danger instead of fleeing such a horrifying scene. He was just being a brave and good human being. We need more people like this man.

I never knew this hero but I have shopped at Montgomery Mall my whole life. I could have been the woman he was trying to help. Any one of us could have been that woman. I was deeply moved by this story. I'm so sorry.

Wish I had chance coming to know this hero who is a true man with deep love to people around him. His warm heart left us with a love story to share even after a cold incident. He will forever live in our heart as a hero. For generations to come, he will be taught as a hero and his story will be spread. Rest in peace, my friend. You will be deeply missed by many who you know and you don't know. May your love be forever shared and spread all over the area, the state, the nation and the world.
