Keep K9 Felix home!

My husband Dan has been a police officer for 15 yrs and a K9 handler with Felix for the past five years. The last six months have been extremely difficult for our family. Dan was involved in an on duty shooting and diagnosed with PTSD . He returned to work and was injured arresting a person trying to conceal Felony Drugs. Dan has had some difficulties with recovery since needing knee surgery after that incident. Dan has been trying to get back to work and he has now been told by the Chief that he and Felix have been taken off of the K9 unit and in order to keep Felix he has to give the City of Parma $3500.00. Felix is not only his K9 partner, and a member of our family, but has now become a new kind of partner to Dan by becoming his PTSD / Service dog. We are not ones that find it at all easy to ask for help, but with Dan being on injury leave for an unforeseen extended period of time, we do not have the extra funds the City is requiring us to pay them in order to keep Dan and Felix together. Back in April Dan was ordered by the City to take Felix and board him at the Vet's office until they decided what they wanted to do. Felix was there for almost two weeks. Undo stress was placed on both of them and Dan started to have some major setbacks in his recovery due to the separation from Felix and all the unnecessary stress the department was putting on all of us. We are at this time blessed to have Felix back at home with us, but we are not sure how long this situation will last Thank you from the bottom of our hearts in advance for helping to keep this "Team" together! These boys truly NEED each other! If only EVERYONE understood that.
