Psychedelic Humanities Research
Since 2010, I’ve been working to grow the field of psychedelic studies in academia by connecting scholars across disciplines, publishing research in the psychedelic humanities, and teaching college courses about psychedelics and literature.
My work has gotten a lot of positive attention and support in recent years, including a postdoctoral fellowship at the University of Puget Sound and research fellowships with the NYU Psilocybin Cancer Anxiety Study and the New York Public Library’s Timothy Leary papers.
I have some exciting invitations to participate in the development of psychedelic studies with scholars around the world, and I would love your help to bring these opportunities to life! As a single mom with $100,000 in student loans, every dollar means a lot.
I have three upcoming opportunities that I’m particularly excited about:
#1) I was invited to present my research at the Interdisciplinary Conference on Psychedelics Research in Amsterdam this June. This trip has already been mostly funded by a €1,000 scholarship from the OPEN Foundation.
#2) I was selected to participate in an invite-only workshop for scholars of esotericism that will be held in a medieval castle in the south of France the week after my birthday. I was invited by Wouter Hanegraaff, one of my favorite scholars and the author of “Esotericism and the Academy” from Cambridge University Press. This research meeting is intended to bring together a group of younger scholars who have been identified as representing an emerging “next generation” of academic researchers in esotericism and related fields. I have a scholarship for full room and board during the week, so I just need to raise funds for transportation.
#3) I was selected by Zoe Helene of Cosmic Sister to participate in an ayahuasca retreat in Peru. This final trip is already fully funded by a generous “Women of the Psychedelic Renaissance” grant.
If you’re excited about my work and the direction of psychedelic studies as a field, I would appreciate your support as I gather together the remaining funds! Check out the website for perks, if you’re interested. Thank you!

Tie-Dye Level: Psychedelic poetry written on a topic of your choosing! Check out the psychedelic poetry journal from the Psychedemia conference here.
Lysergic Level: Here is the art from the Psychedemia blotter paper! The actual blotter art doesn't have the extra watermark over it.
Fractal Level & Fractal Level 2: Here is a picture of a pair of Mandelbrot set fractal earrings I made. They are hand-drawn using a stencil that was created for my tattoo. I can make similar designs for necklaces, zipper pulls/charms, and keychains. You can specify the color (or range of colors).
This is one of the postcards I wrote from the #ICPR2016 #psychedelics conference as a thank-you perk. I was excited to find these at the Beckley Foundation table, as I explain in my note: "I opened my presentation with the image on this postcard, which illustrates how psilocybin facilitates communication between brain regions that are usually disconnected. Since creative insights often arise from thinking outside of our habitual thought patterns, I used this image as a metaphor for the importance of research that crosses traditional disciplinary boundaries." I have a few postcards left, so I can send some more from my upcoming trip to France if anyone is interested! It is impossible to say how much all the support and kind words mean to me.
