Funeral/Medical Fund for Baby Lucy

It's not often you'll find people more giving, loving, and genuinely kindhearted than Kevin and Kristi Muse--

both have a heart for serving their community and their country. Kevin, an Iraq War veteran and (now) a Navy Reservist, spends most of his days (and nights!) keeping his small corner of the country safe as a Police Officer. Kristi shares her knowledge of homesteading, homeschooling, and motherhood with the world through her blog and freelance writing. When they're not out making a difference through volunteering, they're spending quality time camping, baking, and teaching their two sweet children Natali (5) and Nicholas (2).

Kristi and Kevin are no strangers to tragedy and fertility issues. Over the last 5 years, they have lost 5 angel babies to miscarriage. Though they could never be more greatful and thankful for the two healthy children they have, it's still been incredibly heartwrenching to have to say goodbye to such sweet souls before they could even meet them.

Just when Kristi and Kevin had given up on the idea of bringing more children into their family, they were surprised when sweet Lucy Amelia was conceived. Their rainbow baby had finally come! Most of all, Natali was so excited to have a baby sister to hold and cuddle!

At 21 weeks pregnant, Kristi went into her appointment expecting to simply learn the sex of the baby and instead came home with the most devastating news possible:

Lucy Amelia has a very rare form of skeletal dysplasia and Paternal UPD of chromosome 14.

Lucy, if she is born alive this August, will die within 48 hours with a 0% chance of survival.

This is also a high-risk pregnancy: One of the side effects is polyhydramnios, meaning an excess of amniotic fluid. This excess of fluid is making Kristi both look and feel like a woman at full term pregnancy.  This is not only physically painful but she could go into labor at any moment.

Because of complications with the pregnancy and the blow to her health as a result, Kristi has had to put freelance writing on the backburner and Kevin has had to cut back on his Police work to be there for his wife and children. They've also been simultaneously dealing with a costly flooding and mold issue with their house.

Even though they are insured, the medical bills not covered are quickly piling up. On top of that, they are now having to arrange sweet Lucy's funeral which costs more money than any grieving parent should have to pay.  Their careful financial planning has taken a big hit.

This campaign is to help the Muses get back on their feet. The money shared with them will go to medical bills, funeral costs, and other necessities to help the Muse family through the most difficult moment of their lives.

I first met Kristi during my Freshman year of college at The College of William and Mary when we were both pledging Phi Mu Sorority. Lucky for me, I'd found a friend for life.

Kristi and Kevin are a shoulder to cry on, they're the first to celebrate your accomplisments and victories, and a constant pillar of strength to everyone around them.

I'm calling on friends, family, co-workers, sorority sisters, Police and Military Brothers/Sisters and community members to pitch in and help out as much as you are able.

I know Kristi and Kevin are incredibly thankful for all of the support, thoughts, and prayers sent their way at this truly trying time.
