Neill’s Road to Recovery ...
$11,150 of $10,000 goal
Last month Lee's partner and soul mate Neill had a heart attack at work. He was on a ventilator in ICU for three weeks and the prognosis at that time was not good. But even in the face of such adversity, Lianne never gave up hope for the love of her life and she has kept her attitude positive throughout. Neill also rose to the challenge and against the odds, since the ventilator was removed nearly two weeks ago, he has continued to breathe on his own.
The doctors have done all that they can and now it is up to Neill. Lee has been working with him on his speech and movement, and Neill continues to make good progress. He has surprised everyone and taken some encouraging steps in the right direction on his road to recovery. It is going to be quite a journey
Others in similar situations have achieved great results and as you know, Neill is extremely strong, and stubborn. He can do this! Research has shown the best outcomes will occur with intensive therapy over the next three months.
Many of you have asked how you can help. It is a difficult thing for us to ask for help but if you could give a little, that will help with rehab activities and take some pressure off for a while so Lee can focus on working with Neill during his journey
Your kind thoughts and positive energy have made a huge difference and helped Lee and Neill stay strong during the process of healing - thank you all so much.
May Lianne’s unwavering support, beautiful spirit and incredible love continue to be an inspiration to us all ....
Neill is making amazing progress
He can feed himself and drink (important coming up to Christmas!)
He is able to talk effortlessly.. And has a great sense of humor which is handy as his memory needs a bit of work!
His therapists all are certain he will be independent and self-sufficient in the not too distant future.
His vision and reading is improving and he is working on walking.
So much progress and so much hope.
Thank you for all the lovely messages, good vibes and support. It has provided good healing energy ☺

We were the last people in the world to think something like this would happen... so let me share some learning!!
1. Find a way of sharing your passwords/logins/details - lucky Neill and I shared passwords etc.. it has made things so much easier. In fact, it would have been impossible - Neill has all the automatic payments set up for so many things.
2. Get Income protection insurance/life insurance. We had just rolled all our super in to our own super fund, and had a meeting 4 days after Neill's incident to sign everything.
3. Get Powers of Attorney docs signed. To get Neill one now is near impossible. A lawyer will have a go, for the price fo $2,500, but there is no guarantee. You need this to get any access to info about Medical Insurance, Banks, Personal loans, cars... to sell cars... everything!
4. For all our contracting friends who work through companies not PAYG... check you are covered - if you are a director of a company you won't be covered by your agency OR your company.
and... if you have a sneaking suspicion you have something wrong... don't brush it off... go see the doctor. Yes, i know, i am the last person to do it. Neill had pins and needles in his hands, and thought it was a nerve in his back. Then he had 'indigestion'... which he has never had. And he was super tired, he just thought it was work. But all these things together...!!
On a lighter note... Neill is doing extremely well and will be moved to a facility for Brain Injury Rehabilitation shortly.
Thank you so much Alli for organising this wonderful idea. It is amazing, we can feel the love and encouragement in your words.
Love and huge appreciation from our hearts.
Li and Neill
As always Thank You for your amazing generosity.
Neill is continuing to improve and is responding better every day to the world around him.
Next week we are looking forward to him being seen by the top Brain Specialist in Brisbane.
Every day is another step on the Road to recovery.
Hi Lianne, I met Neill a couple of times during my current contract at DET. My thoughts have been with him. I think it might be worth you taking a look at a book called "the brains way of healing" by Norman Doidge. I'm sure you will gain great value from it. All the best
