Cancer. The dreaded word that you never want to hear for yourself. And when you hear that someone else has it, you feel so powerless. You want to do something... But, what can you do?

Monty Stewart just celebrated his 50th birthday in November. Then he was diagnosed with Stage 4 Metastatic Melanoma. Those of us who know Monty and Janelle know that they have true servants' hearts. They have always given of themselves and their resources. Monty is not just a preacher, but a very caring, compassionate, giving pastor. He and Janelle have both immersed themselves in ministry and outreach for over 25 years, impacting thousands of lives for the glory of God.

Now in their time of need... We can be the hands and feet of Jesus back to them. They definitely need our prayers and support. There are also many practical needs. Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated.

Anyone who has been through something like this or who has major medical issues knows that there are so many expenses. Even if you have insurance, the medical expenses of things not covered adds up. There are so many additional expenses as well. Non-traditional or alternative treatments or treatments at a specialized cancer center that is not part of their insurance coverage ~ should they choose to go that route ~ are not covered by insurance at all and are very costly. There are also meals, travel, etc. Their oldest son, Lawrence, is living in Colorado ~ where his wife is in Veterinary school, and their youngest son, Brennan ~ at age 19 ~ is away from home for the first time in college in Oregon. We also know that the regular bills don't take a break because someone is sick and unable to work.

According to the Dermatology Online Journal ~ "The high costs of melanoma care places it at the top of the most expensive cancers to diagnose, follow, and treat." Anything you can give will be greatly appreciated. The money received will be used for treatment, medical expenses, travel, and living expenses.

There are still many unknowns. Monty is still undergoing tests and waiting on results to determine treatment options. We will update you with more information as we know it.

So, if you want to do something... Most of all... show them your love and support... and pray, pray, pray! And then, anything you can give will be greatly appreciated. Thank you!

UPDATE...

Monty Stewart lost his fight with cancer, but he gained a new body ~ free from any sickness ~ and his heavenly reward. Now he is free from pain and suffering, worshipping at the feet of the Savior, who he served so faithfully here on this earth.

Our sadness is with his family, who lost a wonderful, loving husband and father. The church who lost a caring, compassionate pastor. And all of us who lost a dear family member and friend. He left an incredible legacy, as evidenced by the many comments and stories shared of the lives he touched here on earth. It has been inspiring to read the things shared on the "Praying for Monty Stewart" Facebook Page ~ which has over one thousand followers. He had many friends and will be greatly missed. But he also touched many lives for the glory of God, and many are serving God because of His ministry.

Both Monty and Janelle have given their lives to ministry. Janelle worked alongside Monty, working at the church, with the district, and in the community, serving in many different roles ~ as Children's Pastor, District NYI President, working in the office, directing praise and worship, leading the food pantry and community meals program, and the list could go on and on... She has a heart for others and has been totally immersed in ministry since Monty started as a pastor over 25 years ago.

She will have many changes ahead of her and can definitely still use our support and encouragement. They have currently been living in the church parsonage, so she will be re-locating. She has also been driving a vehicle supplied by the church. Brennan is in college full-time, as well as Brandy ~ who is in her first year of Vet School. There will be many expenses. Please pray for Janelle, Lawrence, Brandy, and Brennan during this difficult time of transition and loss. The support that has been shown to the family while Monty was in the hospital has been overwhelming and very much appreciated! Please continue to support them as you are able. Thank you!

Cards to the family may be sent in care of Christ Community Church

UPDATE ON MONTY...

Many of you are following updates on Facebook and/or Caring Bridge. Janelle is very good at keeping them updated with the latest developments on Monty's health, current status, prayer requests, and needs.

The family is very thankful for all of the support and prayers! Many have sent cards and letters, and Janelle takes them to the hospital and reads them to Monty (even the last several days that he has been unresponsive). Many have sent in food and snacks and care items ~ that are all greatly appreciated. The financial support is also greatly appreciated. Janelle is not currently working as she is spending all of her time sitting by Monty's side. Lawrence has also taken a leave of absence from work to be able to be with his dad and help his mom. (He lives in Colorado.)

Monty was moved to the oncology floor and received one immunotherapy treatment for the cancer before he became too critical and was moved back to the ICU. His kidneys have failed, and he is currently receiving dialysis. He is also on a ventilator. The cancer is widespread and aggressive. But he will not be able to receive more immunotherapy treatments for the cancer unless his kidneys begin working on their own. We are praying and believing... God can work a miracle if that is His will.

Please continue to pray for Monty. Also for Janelle, Lawrence, Brandy, and Brennan... This is a heavy load for all of them as well. Any financial support you can give is very much appreciated. Please share...

UPDATE ON MONTY...

The Stewarts are very appreciative of your support. Thank you to each one who has given. Thank you for all of your love and prayers.

Please continue to pray and show them your support. Monty was admitted to the ICU on Thursday. His sodium level was very low and his white blood cell count was very high. They have run a lot of tests. Until they can figure out what is going on and get him stabilized, they are unable to start any treatment for the cancer itself. He is also in extremely horrible pain.

The results from his CT scans and MRI show that they are dealing with cancer in the lungs and throughout his body, the bone and soft tissue of his head and neck, and large tumors in the muscle of his gluteus maximus and next to his spine. They are still waiting on the biopsy results to know exactly what type of treatment he will need. But now they will also have to wait until he is more stable. His sodium levels were up today. They are hoping that he will continue to improve and that the biopsy results will be in very soon so that he can start treatment for the cancer as soon as possible.

Lawrence flew in from Colorado on Thursday to be there with his parents. Brennan is completing finals and will fly home this week. Brandy is also finishing up her semester and will join them the following week. Please pray for each of them during this difficult time.

Please give as you are able. Share this campaign with others. And continue to keep Monty and Janelle and the family in your prayers. Thank you!
