In Loving Memory of Earl W. Reese

Earl died on August 3rd, while working at FedEx in Tonawanda, NY.  Tragically, a 1,300 pound pallet fell on him, causing his sudden death.  Earl was only 57 years old.   His family, friends and co-workers were left in shock, sadness and pain.

Earl was often called, “Earl the Pearl.”  I guess we always knew just how rare he was!  Stephen Hoeller once said, “A pearl is a beautiful thing that is produced by an injured life.  It is the tear (that results) from the injury of the oyster.  The treasure of our being in this world is also produced by an injured life.  If we had not been wounded, if we had not been injured, then we will not produce the pearl.

Losing Earl has left us all injured and wounded, especially his loving wife Carol and their three sons, Justin, Joshua and Jacob.  Earl, the sole provider of his family worked at ITT Enidine since he was 18 years old.  He was such a dedicated worker that when he was a young man, he would ride his bike to get to and from work.  A couple of years ago, he took on a second job to make ends meet.  His co-workers didn’t just consider him a boss, or colleague…he was their friend, their confidant, a person they wanted to be around!   But if you knew Earl, you knew his ultimate dedication was to his family.  He met his wife when they were just 15 and 18 years old and fell madly in love.   Two Christmases ago, Earl got down on one knee and proposed to Carol (again).  He wanted her to marry him all over again! Their first born Justin worked side by side with his dad since he was a teenager.  Justin just shared the news with Earl and the rest of his family that he too will marry the love of his life, Michelle Curtin.  Earl will never see his sons marry and have children.  Earl, a Buffalo Bills and Sabers fan, will never have the pleasure to take his boys to a game again.  His son Josh, was still under his complete care and dedication.  Earl saw to it that Josh, who suffers from severe Tourette Syndrome and OCD, ADHD, Anxiety would receive an advanced education and always be sheltered and cared for by him and his wife.  He loved taking Josh to sporting events, the movies and Erie County Fair.  Lastly, Jake (a spitting image of a young Earl), had the kind of father who recently helped him paint and furnish his entire apartment.  Somehow always finding time to assist him in any way he could, even after working two jobs.  They just rode some of the world’s largest roller coasters together at Cedar Point.

Earl will live on in our hearts.  He was always willing to listen and NEVER judge, a friend always willing to lend an extra hand, a man who helped the poor, a worker who gave 200% and NEVER complained, a father who adored three wonderful sons and a husband who still looked at his wife and said, “Mercy, mercy, mercy!”  She was his partner, his friend, his right hand, his heart!!

If you would like to pay tribute to the wonderful man he was, the rare “Pearl”, and the kind family he leaves behind you can do so below.  Thanks for reading about Earl Reese.  He is gone but never forgotten.  May heaven hold you and love you until we meet again.
