Mike and Becky Meyer and their daughters Lydia and Nina live in Hastings Ne.
Nina has Muscular Dystrophy.
In March of 2016 Nina required surgery on her spine, to insert a rod that would enable her to maintain better posture which among other things improves her respiratory function.
Nina was hospitalized for two weeks in Denver CO, and is now recovering at home.
Mike and Becky used all of their available vacation time on trips to Denver, as they prepared for the surgery. The time that they have spent in Denver with Nina, and providing 24/7 care for her since she has returned home has been unpaid.
Along with the overwhelming hospital bills, the Meyer family needs to purchase a van to transport Nina.
Mike and Becky have a standard van which requires them to lift and carry Nina to her seat, and then lift the wheelchair in to the back of the van. They need to purchase a wheelchair accessible van to transport Nina. Currently they rent a van to make the trips back and forth to Denver for follow up appointments.
Nina is a past Ambassador for MDA Nebraska and continues to advocate for the organization through her participation in fundraising and speaking engagements.
The Meyer family is always the first to offer to help when others are in need.
