District 220 Family Needs Your Help

On February 19th the unthinkable happened to one of our district’s families. Jose Cruz Gurrola, his wife Juliana and their daughters, Jennifer and Victoria, came home from church to find their house in Carpentersville burned down. They have lost everything; clothes, furniture, treasured mementos, day to day supplies, and all their belongings vanished in the fire. Thankfully, no one was harmed in this terrible accident, but they are certainly shaken by it, and in much need of our community’s support.
Jennifer is a friendly and dedicated freshman at BHS. Victoria, better known as “Vikki” to her friends, is a high achieving 2nd grade student excelling in the Spanish Dual Language Program at Grove Avenue School. Many of us who know these girls personally understand how much this adversity could affect them and cause them to lose focus. It is a devastating loss, and anyone can imagine the effort and costs it takes to rebuild a home and regain normalcy after such an event.
As members of District 220 community and representatives of the Spanish Dual Language Council, we ask you to thoughtfully consider helping this family rebuild their lives. Any amount will be greatly appreciated.
My name is Alejandra Acosta Liendo, and I am one of the six parents representing each grade level in the 220 Spanish Dual Language Council. I am also a Grove parent and one of my children is in the same classroom as the youngest of the Gurrola family.
The funds we raised with this campaign will be used by the family to replace material possessions lost in the fire, such as clothes, supplies, food and eventually larger items.
I will present to the Gurrola family a bank check as witnessed by the entire 220 Spanish Dual Language Council at the District 220 administrative offices.
