The United Nations ranks Burkina Faso as the third poorest country in the world. One out of three children will probably die before they ever reach the age of ten.
The deaths are mostly due to a lack of fresh water.
The women of Burkina Faso often walk several miles (up to 3 miles each way) to a dirty stream or stagnant pool, just to fill a bowl with water.
Each well costs $2,200.00.
Each well can provide clean water to 500-1,000 people.
I will walk (I reserve the right to jog some) 30 miles, the equivalent of 1 week of walking. I plan to walk on Sunday April 22, 2018.
Half of the time, I will be carrying 2 gallons of water.
I have mapped out a course across ND’s campus that will require me to walk the campus 20 times (1.5 mile course).
My Goal is to raise enough money for 1 well ($2,200), and to raise awareness that, even in 2018, something as simple as clean water is in desperate need.
