Right after Worlds, and with no time to rest, we had to head directly over to the 2017 Hawaii STEM Conference this week at the Hawaii Convention Center to represent and present our STEM and Robotics programs and projects. Team 434 is the VEX IQ Robotics team under the STEM Robotics program of Molokai Middle School. We are 7th and 8th grade students that actually make up three individual teams known as Team Menehune Farmers, Team Kalo Farmers, and Team Na'iwa Warriors.
After another successful season, we made it to the State Tournament, and are proud to once again be sending one of our own to Worlds. For the third time in our history, Team Menehune will again be representing our program at the 2017 VEX World Championships: Middle School Division in Kentucky.
To help send our Team Menehune to Worlds, we have again started a GoFundMe Campaign. The funds raised will be used for travel to Louisville, Kentucky from April 23rd to 26th. The event will be held at the Kentucky Exposition Center, and can be viewed by webcast at http://bit.ly/2mnjimg.
We are happy and proud to again have the opportunity to represent our program, school, island, county, and state at Worlds.
We are also proud to be representing our Molokai VEX IQ League at Worlds. Our Team 434 created the League, and continue to sponsor and support this effort so that our younger elementary teams do not have to travel off-island for competitions. Our League is made up of sixteen teams that represent every school at every grade level from K through 12 on our island. We have been blessed to achieve one-hundred percent participation by all schools in the region at all levels in a single Robotics program. Out of our sixteen teams, we were able to qualify nine for this past season's State Tournament. We are even happier to again be sending three teams from our League to Worlds--one in the middle school division, and two in the elementary division
Despite the challenges of demographics, remote location, and high travel costs, our students continue to show that they can be succcessful in competing alongside the best at all levels of competition.
Going to Worlds is a once-in-a-lifetime opportunity for our students, and for many of them, it will be their only chance to compete at this level. They will strive to do their best at Worlds ,and to make our school, families, communities, and supporters like you proud. They will also have another opportunity to show that, even coming from a small, remote island like Molokai, they can "Kulia I Ka Nu'u" or "Strive for Excellence" at the highest levels.
