Dixie Bettini's Road To Recovery

Donation protected
On Friday, February 14, 2020 our mom, Dixie Bettini (Specht), was in a horrible car accident in Omaha, Nebraska and suffered many critical and life altering injuries resulting in being hospitalized and facing months and months of rehabilitation.

Both her legs were broken in multiple places. Her right leg had severe breaks to the femur, tibia, fibia, ankle and foot. Her lower left leg was nearly severed and her ankle crushed in the crash, and was ultimately amputated after just over 3 months in the hospital. She also suffered internal injuries that caused critical bleeding and the need to remove her spleen. Her left wrist was shattered, and this injury has change how our left-handed, cake decorating mom now has to do everything, including make her icing to earn a living.

After 4 months she was released home on June 18th.

For months she healed and began the process of having a prosthetic built and physical therapy for her injuries.  She has been cleared from hand therapy, yet still continues to strengthen it with daily activities.

Now 10 months after the accident she has intense rehabilitation and physical therapy and will not be able to run her business, Dixie's Icing, that she has worked so hard to build and maintain as she heals.

She has been working hard to learn to use her prosthetic, and recently has replaced her van and is starting to drive herself to therapy and doctors appointments.

At the beginning of her recovering, and as the sole employee and producer of her popular and delicious icing, her family and friends closest to her tried to keep Dixie's Icing going, so she could focus on her recovery... but then the pandemic erupted and only her so, Chris was able to keep the icing and her recovery going

The pandemic has made the whole process more difficult, and we cannot express our gratitude for the love and support that has poured in from all over the world for our mother. Not one to ever ask for a hand out, in this time of need, if you are able to offer any assistance for our mom, we know she will forever be as grateful to you as well.

Knowing our mother, any unused portions of this assistance will be "paid-forward" to someone else in need, as our mother has the biggest heart around and is always thinking of others before herself.

Thank you with all the respect and love we have,

Dixie's children - Chris, Nicole and Nathaniel
