Crystal's hospital surgery & rehab costs

Donation protected
This is Crystal Lucas. She's been a member of Crossfit Lockhart for a little over two years. Yesterday October 19 while competing with her gym at Central Florida Throwdown, she sustained an injury during her first WOD. After completing her third thruster, she released the bar behind her after a failed attempt to catch the bar on her shoulders. She was unable to clear her hand from the bar which then forced her arm to bend in the opposite direction than it's meant to bend ultimately severing her humerus bone, (bone between elbow and shoulder) tearing the bicep, and causing 80% damage of the radial nerve. The radial nerve is responsible for mobility and feeling in the hand thus leaving Crystal's hand extremely restricted in movement and numb/tingley. The x-ray photo attached here is of her humerus bone. Crystal recently started a new job about a month and a half ago as a veterinary technician specializing in orthopedic surgery, conducting many surgeries on animals like the one she will be receiving later today. On the morning of the 20th, after an overnight stay in the hospital, Crystal will under go surgery to repair the humerus bone, followed by a month of her left arm being immobilized, and lastly rehab for her hand due to the nerve damage. It is not yet known how long she will be out of work, but the orthopedic surgeon anticipates it to be quite awhile. Since Crystal has only been employed with her veterinary hospital for a month and a half, her health insurance has yet to start since she must be employed for three months to receive that benefit. All medical bills at this point will be self pay by Crystal. So her family and her gym Crossfit Lockhart are reaching out for any help others are willing to give. She is not aware of this page being created for her. Crystal is not the kind of person to ask for handouts. Knowing this about her, we decided to covertly create this page. Crystal LOVES crossfit! Not just the sport, but also the crossfit community, the commarodery, and what it means to be a crossfit athlete. She works 10 hours a day and then goes straight to the gym almost everyday of the week always trying to better herself. When this injury happened, the thing that bothered her most is that its going to be a long time before she can lift again, and felt like she let her team down by not being able to finish the competition. So we'd like to reach out to the crossfit community to help our crossfitter! In addition to no health insurance, she will be out of work for awhile. Having no PTO this early with the company she will not have any income coming in for awhile either. We also accept prayers as well! We hope for a speedy recovery, but the dr. says the nerve damage could take up to a year to heal. At this point, there is no idea how much this will cost. One could only imagine what continuous pain meds, overnight hospital stay, orthopedic surgery, dr. visits, and rehab would cost 100% out of pocket. Thank you in advance from all of us! Deepest gratitude- Crystal's family and crossfit family
