After more than two years of hard work promoting Denver’s awesome visual arts scene both online and in the streets, 1of1 Magazine is ready to release a print issue. We are so thankful for the continued online support we’ve received from artists, galleries, and art enthusiasts thus far, but it’s high time we put our original goal into effect: a bi-annual printed gallery of 20 of Denver’s best artists in full-color, with no ads, distributed to the masses for free.
As useful, cheap, and efficient as online publishing is, it lacks the tangibility of print. Imagine the feel and smell of paper in your hands, the teetering weight of the book, the way a soft breeze can ruffle and give it wings. Everyone of those interactions deepens the experience of appreciating someone’s work. It’s much like how going to a show can be much better than simply swiping through a few pictures on your smartphone.
Aside from featuring artwork that delights and challenges, we aim to encourage communal participation by including signature boxes as an incentive for people to seek out and interact with the artists they love. Community is what keeps Denver’s art scene so strong, and we feel like the more real world experiences people have with each other, the better the art scene will be.
1of1 Magazine has--and always will be--concerned with the art being produced here as well as the art that is shown here. Many other arts publications cull content from a global pool--ensuring them wide and massive readerships--but we believe in the robustness of Denver’s art scene, and we feel like it can stand on its own. As such, our issues will be distributed free through many of the metro area’s major and minor art institutions to ensure greater exposure of artist’s work and equal dissemination of ideas.
