Helene & Bert, Please Help

You may have seen the April 21 profile on Global News and MSN.com about my parents Helene and Bert Ansell battling to save their home for the second time in two years from flooding on Ile Mercier. A few days later the retaining wall for the driveway gave, the stones smashed through the garage and water flooded into the house.  

My parents home has been their retirement dream. They’ve worked hard over the years renovating it and creating an oasis for themselves and anyone who visits. In the basement they have a little apartment which is necessary to help them make ends meet.  

In 2017, the “100-year” flood almost took their home from them. The basement was completely flooded. Like most they were told to renovate and government aid would help them and like many their file from two years ago is still open and they are still waiting for this “aid”. Now the worst has happened again…They had not yet recovered from the first flood and this one has been devastating financially and psychologically. The future is uncertain and they need help to move forward.  

There is no shortage of news about flooding in Quebec. Like so many others, my parents and brother struggled to save what they could. Now they’re at a loss for what to do next.
