DMS Destination Imagination Global Finals 2019

We are raising money to fund our Dolores Middle School Destination Imagination Global Finals 2019 Trip! The Destination Imagination Challenge Program is a fun, hands-on system of learning that fosters students’ creativity, curiosity and courage through academic Challenges. The Challenges blend STEM (science, technology, engineering mathematics) education with the arts and social entrepreneurship. Our team (The Beartown D& DIers) has been working on this challenge since September of last year. We have been very dedicated and have learned so much in the process. We chose to compete in the Fine Arts challenge. In the challenge we were required to choose a game, any type of game from sports to video games and do research on the game. We then had to create an 8 minute skit incorporating game knowledge into the story we created. We had to make a container that held all of the props for our skit and morphed during the skit. It also had to be a part of the skit. We also had to make a game gizmo that altered the course of the story somehow. It had to be a necessary element to the game and a member of our team had to be a physical part of this game gizmo. We had to choose either the game gizmo or the container to be our technical element. We chose our container as we used structual and mechaical engineering elements to create it. We also had to create two team chose elements that highlight talents or interests of the team and incorporate them into the story as well. In additional to all of that, the story had to be told from two perspectives. We made EVERYTHING- from the props to the required elements of the challenge (many that are not listed here). We also created a budget for all items used, making sure to remain in the budget limits of the challenge. We are judged on many things from our creativity to our innovation to our ability to work as a cohesive team. Another challenge we have to compete in is the instant challenge. The team must work together to solve a timed challenge with no prior knowledge of the task. It can be scientifically based, performance based or a combination of the two. We competed with teams from all over Colorado and we won 1st place! This qualifies us for Global Finals, a REALLY BIG DEAL. Global finals has 17,000 attendees from 15 countries. It is held in Kansas City, Missouri. It is a wonderful multicultural learning experience full of workshops, hands on activities and the opportunity to interact with kids from all over the country and the world. It is very difficult to earn the privilege of competing at this level and we are extremely excited for the opportunity. However, we need help to get there! The total cost of traveling to Kansas City, room, board and registration fees is approximately $750/child and we have very little time to earn the money. We are working hard on several fundraisers (benefit concert, silent auction, concessions, bake sales and more), but every bit helps and it is a lot of money to raise in a very short time! We would be so grateful for any amount you could give to help us raise the full amount of money we need to attend.
