This Boston & Maine Boxcar #72249 is one of a few remaining outside braced boxcars. This car was built in 1930 by the Standard Steel Car Company, and was one of the last outside braced boxcars produced for the Boston & Maine. The car is about 40 feet long and was standard size for the B&M. The car is roughly 44,000 pounds and each truck is about 7,000 pounds.

The car in currently in Waterbury and is in need of a new home. The car has not been used since at least the 1980s. The car was in threat of being scrapped if not moved in the near future. This would be very unfortunate as we would loose a valuable piece of railroad history.

I was given a unique opportunity to buy this boxcar for $1 from the Naugatuck Railroad with the condition of it being moved by the end of October. As you can guess, I need help with the cost of shipping. I need around $4,000 to move the car to its new home in Woodstock, CT. This fundraiser is going to help cover the cost of shipping and if more then enough is raised, the extra funds will help cover the restoration.

The goal of this project is to restore the car to its original condition. The car will one day be put back in service at a local railroad or museum.
