The 10th Annual Summit Up is right around the corner on Saturday, April 22nd at Pantana Bobs from 1-8pm. Tickets this year are $12 dollars from any brother and $15 at the door on the day of the event. The event sold out last year so be sure to purchase your ticket as early as possible. Tickets will be available for purchase on Wednesday, March 29th.
This event is held in honor of one of our fallen brothers, Thomas Earl Bolick, who passed away in July 2006 from brain cancer. All proceeds raised from the event go to the American Brain Tumor Association to help fund the search for a cure. We welcome anyone to attend and join us in this day of celebration of Tom’s life.
A little about Tom’s life, Tom was born in Raleigh on September 5, 1985. Even though his life was cut short Tom was still able to accomplish so much; he was an eagle scout in Troop 342 and was a multi-sport athlete in high school. Tom also received the Nick Rowe Memorial Scholarship from the North Carolina Vietnam Veterans. At East Carolina, Tom was a political science major and joined a fraternity, Sigma Phi Epsilon. His parents were hesitant to let him join a fraternity but he joined anyway without them knowing. Tom soon became a favorite among the brothers and was a great friend to everyone. One night, on Halloween 2004, Tom suffered a massive cerebral hemorrhage and through the actions of several brothers he made it to the hospital in time and was saved. After his parents discovered the love and support shown from the brothers of Sigma Phi Epsilon they were rejoiced at his decision to join the fraternity.
Tom was soon diagnosed with brain cancer and was forced to leave school to fight the deadly disease. During Toms absence, the men of Sigma Phi Epsilon banded together to help their brother in need by selling hundreds of “Sharing Hope” wristbands to benefit the American Brain Tumor Association. While Tom was ill the love and support of his brothers gave him motivation in his fight against cancer. Unfortunately, Tom lost the fight with cancer and passed away in July 2006.
Tom’s legacy lives on through the Summit Up fundraiser which has raised over $32,000 for the American Brain Tumor Association. Tom’s parents have attended the event in years past and are presented with the check of funds raised through the event.
Each year Sigma Phi Epsilon has set up a band line up throughout the event to bring people together and remember the life that ended too short. So please join us at Pantana Bob’s to celebrate Tom and his legacy on April 22nd. We hope to see everyone there!
