Florida Everglades Challenge
Thank you to everyone that sponsored me. It really means alot.
I can't thank you all enough for all the support that was much needed before, during, and after the expedition.
My only regret that was when all my stuff was stolen it really set me back in my hopes to buy sup's for people. I had to replace all my gear to get back on the water, then when home had to purchase all the gear I had borrowed from friends.
However, some good did come of it. I started the process of forming a 501c3 non-profit that helps people break through adversity through water sports. https://www.facebook.com/Paddle4Peace?ref=hl
we have a couple local people we take on the water free of charge whenever they want to learn the sport of SUP. Our most moving moment was labor day weekend when I went to Oregon to help a guy that lost half his leg 10 years ago. I supported him in a 164 mile paddle through beyond the board.
I hope you enjoy the documentary. There is still much to clean up on it but it's a start.
2 days ago I met with Jordan Fogerson (documentarian of the Everglades challenge) and did more post expedition interviews. It was strange seeing that the expedition seemed so distant in the past yet it brought me right back to the moment. Especially when he asked me about all my belongings being stolen and then all the support I received. I had to pause many times answering the question. It reminded me how important you all were to get me through the toughest time I have ever had in an expedition. I can't thank you enough. I am hoping to still get to everyone through email but my schedule is bearing down on me.
On the documentary side of things, Jordan tells me he's hoping to have a rough cut of the documentary by the end of June. I will send you all the link to where it is being hosted so you see it first. I'll then welcome any feedback. From there we'll refine the documentary and make a final which You will all see first before it's released.
Going forward, I am gearing up for another huge undertaking in July. It's an expedition I'm calling the "Iron Athlete". I'll be paddling in a race called the 100 mile paddle in NYC on July 20,21. It's a 2 day staged race. day 1 is 60 miles and day 2 is 40.
Immediately after the race I will drive back to Missouri and race in a 340 mile race called the mr340 on July 23,24,25. It will truely be another challenge that will push my limits as I race 440 miles in 5 days. The "Iron Athlete" will be shot as a documentary. I will have to use the same format as the everglades challenge and fund raise to pull this one off. The fundraising starts in 2 weeks.
Outside of that, my business http://www.supstlouis.com/ is up and running for the year and will be a great focus as i continue to spread SUP in the midwest.
Again, Thank you for all your support through the everglades challenge. I couldn't have done it without you!
For the most part I am trying to spend as much time with my family as possible. I left them for 2 weeks which hard to do. Even harder is my wife and mother in-law had our 2 young kids to take care of. It's a lot of work.
So as some of you may have read, I made it home at 5am Wednesday after my crew drove straight through the night and made it to work for 6:45am and worked til 3pm. Then made it home to my family.
I apologize that I have not been able to thank everyone that donated individually. My nights after work have been filled with chasing kids around the house, changing diapers, and answering the 586 emails in my inbox. Also I've been busy with interviews for radio spots, online articles, and magazines.
However I will individually thank everyone. It means a lot to me that strangers reached out to me when I needed help most. It's almost as if the theft of all my stuff was purposeful. It brought many of you into my life that otherwise I might not have met. And I am very thankful to have you.
As I write this I know that I should have been asleep an hour ago. But it's weighed heavily on me that its been a week and I have yet to acknowledge all the great folks that made my journey possible.
Thank you and I will talk to you soon.
the mom kidney will sponsor you for $100.00. will be sending it out this week. Give my kidney a good time and go for it!
2 days and almost $2000! The next $400 goes to the expedition. Everything after goes towards buyg SUP's for dialysis patients and transplant recipients. Tanks to all the sponsors so far. The latest in is Satish Gopinathan, Henrik Friberg, Sue Donnelly, Matt Myers, and an anonymous sponsor.
Wow! I am so overwhelmed by the Love and support for Shane! It is truly a testament to his drive and determination! Thank you to each and every one of you that is helping to make this dream a reality! We are so blessed.
