<div>Our family is devastated and searching for answers. On January 16th at noon, Marcos Tulio arrived at the ISAP Program office for his mandatory weekly check-in. He has been a compliant participant in this program for years, never missing an appointment.

<div>While Marcos was inside for his ISAP weekly check-in, he was detained inside the facility. We believe that ISAP staff coordinated with ICE, despite their years of compliance.  He was quickly moved out of state and is currently being held at a facility in Texas, where communication has been incredibly difficult.

<div>Marcos is the sole provider and the pillar of our home. He leaves behind his heartbroken wife and four children, who are now facing a future without their father’s guidance or financial support.

Thanks to your donations, our February fundraising exceeded our $300,000 goal and allowed over 200 families in the Central Minneapolis neighborhood to remain safely in their homes. With immense gratitude for your support, we are again raising funds toward the rent our neighbors need and deserve.

Even as some neighbors consider returning to work, we know that they will need support in March to cover rent as they begin to get back on their feet.

Critical Rent Assistance for Central Neighborhood Families

<div>Hello my name is Destiny. Myself , my husband Shawn and their 6 kids were the lastest “ICE” victims. They were innocent bystanders driving through what should have been a peaceful protest when things took a turn ICE began to start throwing tear gas bombs everywhere we were trying so hard to get out the way but didn’t want to harm anybody with our car in the process. One of the bombs rolled under our truck and within seconds our truck lifted up off the ground and the airbags deployed, the car doors locked themselves and the car began to fill with the powerful tear gas. We fought hard to get the doors open and get all of the kids out, bystanders had to help.

<div>Once all of the kids were out we realized our infant wasn’t breathing. with what little breath I had in my body I began giving my baby mouth to mouth and performing CPR. He eventually regained consciousness. EMS arrived shortly after to assist

<div>Fifteen years ago, The Root Note was founded as a collaborative effort with Corrie Brekke at the helm. For the last seven years, Corrie has operated the Root Note as a sole proprietorship, weathering multiple waves of storms which many local businesses experienced. Corrie has now made the decision to leave the business and begin the next chapter of her life. This news has hit me and my family very hard, and we’re not ready to see this space go.

<div>My wife and I met at The Root Note while I was working here in its early days (2010!) So much of our relationship has been centered around this cafe. In 2019 when our son was born, this is where our family started to come. The Root Note is part of our family’s history, just as it is for so many in the community.

<div>The Root Note has always been a safe space for all ages, where everyone is always welcome. It’s a place to gather and meet friends both old and new for drinks, food, music, and community events. It’s more than just a coffee shop or a place to eat. It’s truly an important Third Place for so many.

<div>My family and I don’t want to see the end of The Root Note. We are looking to purchase the business, but we are not in a place to do it on our own. We are asking for 30,000 in start-up capital.

<div>Hello, we are Palestinian Americans hoping to help our family stuck in Gaza. Our father grew up in Gaza and later left after he and our mother married in the 80s. His family didn’t have the means to go and didn’t want to leave. Palestine has been home to my family for generation after generation. Before the 1948 Nakba, we were in Jaffa, but Gaza has been home to my family since their original displacement in ‘48.

<div>We are urgently seeking assistance to get our family out of Gaza as they continue to confront the threats of war, starvation, and miscellaneous illnesses. These funds will also be used to sustain their lives while they remain in Gaza, as prices have skyrocketed for basic needs. It has become highly challenging for them to access even the most basic necessities for human survival—food, clean water, and medicine.

<div>Our family is trapped in Gaza, and they are reaching out for financial aid to leave the Gaza Strip immediately. This is the last resort, as they never wanted to be forced out of their homes and their homeland, but there is no safety in Gaza. Currently, the only way to choose life is through evacuation. Recently, they received news that our family home in Northern Gaza, the house our grandparents moved to from Jaffa after the Nakba in 1948, had been destroyed. It is still standing, but it’s uninhabitable. They have lost everything they owned in Gaza and have ended up displaced and homeless, and some are even falling ill.

<div>They have evacuated numerous times, moving together or separating – searching for safe shelter, but they haven't found one. Nowhere in Gaza is safe. Every area is being targeted, and bombings occur without any warning. The places they were told to flee to are continuing to be targeted.

<div>Everyone is living with psychological trauma due to everything that has been happening around them for 100+ days, and many of them are suffering from various illnesses like colds, pneumonia, etc.

<div>Their saving grace for survival would be to raise $7,000 per person (roughly 30 people) to leave Gaza through the Egyptian border (the Rafah checkpoint). In hopes of saving our beloved family, we hope you can assist in bringing them safety and protection.

José Manuel was such a caring soul and had a bright future ahead of him. He loved cars, going to parties, and spending time with friends and family. His smile lit up the whole room and made sure those he loved were good even those he never knew. He was the only child to a caring mother and father who loved him with all their heart. Sadly, Jose passed away unexpectedly on November 15, 2019. Now it’s our turn to help him and his family out for all the laughs, smiles, and memories he gave us. Please share and donate. On July 2nd, 2015, 34 year old Katie was diagnosed with stage 2 breast cancer.  She was 30 weeks pregnant with her third child.  <br /><br />While pregnant, she underwent two surgeries to have the cancer removed and then in August  gave birth to a beautiful, healthy baby girl.<br /><br />During the diagnosis period, her two operations, and countless doctor meetings, her husband took off work to support her and help with the older boys ages 2 and 4.  This took a hit on the couple financially.  On top of that, they now they face the bills with Katie's treatment. <br /><br />On March 1st 2017, Katie  was diagnosed with stage 3c breast cancer. The cancer has spread to the lymph nodes,  three of which are tucked in between the pectoral muscles and one is behind her collarbone. The location of the lymph nodes is a cause of concern when it comes to removing them so it was recommended that she try to shrink the tumors with chemotherapy before having surgery. It also leaked into her muscle in her chest. <br /><br />She is currently having chemo and supports her immune system with nutrition, supplements, and IV therapy. <br /><br />Please consider blessing their family by donating financially.
