<div>My mom was struck by an SUV on Memorial Day while crossing the street. The driver did not stop or call 911 but instead left her in the middle of the street to be run over by other vehicles. My mom is in the ICU with internal bleeding from a lacerated liver as well as multiple broken bones and fractures to the head, spine, knee, ankle, ribs, arms, and hand. She suffered a traumatic brain injury as well. She is expected to survive but will have a long hospital course as well as a long road to recovery to walk again.

<div>A little about my mom - She is a 63-year-old grandmother who is known as the 'crochet lady' because she makes beautiful blankets for family/friends, hats for babies in the NICU, and scarves/hats for the homeless. She is the widow of her high school sweetheart, who passed away just 3 years ago after 37+ years of marriage. She is a cat lover who loves to spoil "Rocco", her grey/white tabby she adopted after the passing of her husband.

<div>As many of you already know Jeffrey was an amazing, kind, caring and loving man.  He was always quick to help his family, friends and others.  He touched the hearts of so many and will be greatly missed by family, friends and those that had the opportunity to spend time with him.

<div>Jeff was so strong and fought the battle bravely with no complaints.  He enjoyed nothing more than spending time with his family, his loving wife Rachel, beautiful children Cora (10) and Luca (8), Sisters, nieces and nephews, Aunts, Uncles cousins and friends.

Stand With Ukraine

It is going on 3 weeks since I got the call that no one ever wants to get. Never wanting to bother or burden anyone else; my sister Kristen finally reached out because her heart was breaking in ways that some people understand and others do not. It was that day that she and her husband Charlie received the devastating news. Cancer. Just the word itself puts a fear in all of us. Charlie was simply going about life with some back pain but then it got to point that the pain was excruciating. They went for an MRI and many tests later it was confirmed. <br /><br />As an older sister you want to protect your siblings from everything and anything. You want to take their pain and hurt on yourself; shield them from all the bad in this world. Yet in reality we all know this is not possible. While I am limited in what I can do, I will do absolutely everything humanly possible I can to help them in this fight. <br /><br />Right now, it seems like blow after blow. The financial strain and complications are crippling their family. Bills are already coming in for what insurance has denied. Almost every day since they found out, there has been an appointment or test. Living in Jim Thorpe, there is unfortunately no place closer than the Lehigh Valley for all of these medical appointments.  With treatment starting this week, another blow was a few days ago when their car broke down with no possibility of repair.  Their road blocks currently feel endless, yet not hopeless.  This is why I am reaching out to all of you.  Pride has its place, but sometimes people need community help.  Although it’s difficult to ask, sometimes that’s all you have to do… just reach out to your friends and family for assistance. <br /><br />Charlie and Kristen have weathered some major storms and they are two very proud people so like many of us it is tough to ask for help. My sister has had to cut her work hours drastically to focus on Charlie and their kids (aged 9-15) they have at home. They are also first time grandparents to their son Charlie’s 3 month old.  So, it is with a heavy but hopeful heart that I am reaching out for help. I have started a GoFundMe page in hopes of alleviating some of the financial burden and stress that this has brought on. Any contribution is appreciated beyond words. I also know the power of prayers and ask that you please pray for their family in this must difficult of times.

Charlie's Cancer Fight

Please help us build the Malone Children Memorial Playground.  <br /><br />We launch this effort to bring hope and peace to our community as we come to the one year anniversary of the Malone Family Fire that led to the loss of six of the family’s nine children – two of whom were students at our school, City Neighbors Charter School.<br /><br />JP MorganChase has generously donated the land next to our current playspace for the creation of a memorial playspace in honor of the Malone Children: Bridgette, Amelia, Zoe, Amanda, Billy and Daniel. This generous gift of land will allow us to create a space of beauty that symbolizes hope, love and community. <br /><br />Over the past semester we brought together students, teachers, and families to design a playground that honors the lives of the Malone Children. <br /><br />With a theme of ‘magic in nature’, it will offer the community a green space of natural beauty, learning and peace – a calm space for exploring, gathering and healing. The space will feature a pathway that begins at the City Neighbors Lion and then winds its way around the entire area creating a walkway for children and neighbors. There is climbing equipment, a zipline, slides, and swings, mosaics, interactive educational and play materials, musical instruments and science experiments – all integrated into the natural environment. <br /><br />Old fashioned lamp-posts light the way, and a water pump gives the sandbox extra possibilities for fun in the warmer weather. A dry river bed lends itself to exploration, and four square and picnic tables available. A<strong>t the very heart and in the highest elevation of the playground is the memorial garden - a circle of 6 beautiful cherry trees that will serve as place of remembrance and peace.</strong> <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/26900840_1515729942.0163_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" /><br />For those who were so moved by this tragedy in our community, we invite you to support this beautiful memorial as a lasting tribute to the Malone Children.<br /><br />We thank Katie and Bill Malone  and their wonderful loving family for supporting this effort. <br /><br /><img class="not-resizable" src="https://d2g8igdw686xgo.cloudfront.net/26900840_1515731378.9484_funddescription.jpg" alt="" width="100%" />

Malone Children Memorial Playground

<strong>It is with great sadness that we come together to mourn the unexpected loss of David Helmuth. Dave was known for his kind heart, quick wit and keen intelligence. Dave is survived by his loving parents, Craig and Barb Helmuth; his beloved sister, Kim; his son, Lucas, and Lucas’ mother, Stephanie Takacs, as well as many aunts, uncles and cousins.<br /><br />With Dave’s passing we remind others that his life is one to be celebrated. Although we will miss him every day, especially his winning smile, he will remain in our hearts forever. Throughout his life we were able to create lasting memories and it has been a privilege to be a part of his too short life.<br /><br />As many of you are aware, the cost of unexpected funeral expenses is incredibly high.  The funds raised here will be used to help his family with these costs.
