FROM THE STREETS TO THE FOOTBALL WORLD CUP
What has been your first thought when you have seen a street child?  Majority of the people have negative perceptions of these children and are usually presumed to be a threat, a criminal, a thief, untouchable. This is a sad reality and we are working to challenge negative stereotypes of street children and to promote the rights of street children because we believe they are somebody!!

Shelter Ashraya Nepal http://www.shelternepal.org
is a voluntary non-government organization established in 2014 which envisions a society where there are no children left on the street, irrespective of caste, creed, religion and language so that they could lead their faithful and dignified lives. Shelter believes children are at utmost risk of trafficking, abuse, modern-day slavery so it is important to rehabilitate them to a safer place. It is dedicated on reintegration of street children in families along with support for resolving identity crisis and support to attain birth registration, citizenship and preserve other fundamental rights. Shelter uses Sports as the fundamental therapy to help the street children as it gives them the opportunity to be seen and heard.

And Football Changed his life forever !! He became the No 10 Messi

"Shelter Ashraya Nepal" has the honor and privilege of bringing Street Children of Nepal to Moscow, Russia which will be a rare and a lifetime opportunity for them to see the world, show their skills, talents and to speak on behalf of all the children in Nepal. Street Child World Cup uses the power of sport to protect, respect and support street-connected children around the world. It is the right of every child to get an identity, name and to acquire a nationality. Birth registration provides the first legal recognition of the child and is generally required for the child to obtain a birth certificate and as a result any other legal documents like citizenship, passport, property documents etc. Thus, Shelter’s major activity is to lobby for children to attain all their necessary legal documents which will help them in their future endeavour.

Shelter Ashraya Nepal believes that the opportunity of participating in this World Cup should be given to other children of Nepal as well for which we organized a National Street Child Football League (6-8 September 2017)  which gave chance to other children living in streets or organizations to participate.  Out of the 144 children registered in the league, 14 children did not have the birth registration, it is our main mission to advocate for the rights of street children through the power of Football

It gave them a national platform to present their skills and make their way to the World Cup in Moscow. Shelter Ashraya Nepal could have just taken the children living in Shelter Ashraya Nepal but we wanted to make it inclusive and take it as a national movement to raise more awareness for the rights and protection of these children. The league witnessed huge participation out of which 14 teams made it to the league.
Prayaas / Oceed from Kathmandu secured the third place!!
Nepal Children Organization secured the second place
Three Angels from Pokhara were the champions of the league
From street life to this moment takes a lot of hard work!
Everybody is the champion!!

Three Angels Team from Pokhara

It is unbelievable for many that these were street children not long before and now they are making their country PROUD!!  It was pre-decided that it was not the winning team who was representing Nepal in the world cup rather 26 children were selected out of the 144 on the basis of their performance, skills and attitude. Amongst the 26 who made it to the camp, 6 children do not have the birth registration, and it is a challenge to the government and the organizations lobbying for street children to get this issue addressed. The children who dream to raise the country's flag in the World Cup might end because he does not have a registered identity - This is the cause we work for to ensure no child is left behind just because he was abandoned in the street.

                             26 Selected Players
The selected 26 players are in the selction camp since 23.10.2017 until 10.11.2017, out of the 26 players, 12 will make it to the national team and 9 will make it to the World Cup  in Moscow 2018 representing Team Nepal in 2018. The team is made up with 9 players because the World Cup will be 7 a side.

In this journey, All Nepal Football Association (ANFA) of Nepal and National Sports Council has been the main partner and assisted us during the league and the selection camp too.

NATIONAL STREET CHILD FOOTBALL LEAGUE 2017-ROAD TO WORLD CUP SHORT VIDEO

In 2010, First World Cup happened in South Africa and second in Rio, Brazil. In 2018 street children from 22 countries from different continents will come together in Moscow, Russia for the third Street Child World Cup. By taking part in the tournament they will be adding their voices to an international campaign to provide hope for the millions of children who still live or work on the streets.

9 Nepalese street children will participate in the third Street Child World Cup on May 2018 which will kick-off in Moscow ahead of the FIFA World Cup Russia 2018. The power of football will be used to raise awareness and tackle the widespread stigma that street children face around the world and Nepal team will inspire governments and international community through its wonderful game in the world cup. And before they leave after the world cup completion they become ambassadors for street children, both on and off the pitch, sharing their experiences, making recommendations and calling for their rights.

Shelter aims to empower street children of Nepal through engaging them in sports, providing them informal education, building their capacity, and developing them as champions for positive changes in society. Moreover, this World Cup project also targets to develop leadership capacity within street children. The selected street children of Nepal will be interacting with hundreds of street children at the international platform. Simultaneously, these children will engage themselves in social, educational and sports activities. They also share their stories and get the lesson learnt from the stories of other street children from different countries.

This project has been designed to have three major positive changes in participating street children. These changes will ultimately lead them to conceptualize of a life of a responsible citizen. It is anticipated that the three obvious impacts are:

1.Strengthening football skills of street children
2.Developing self-discipline and positive attitudes in street children
3.Creating a positive atmosphere for a street child in reintegration process, both in the legal channel and
social norms.

After National Team Selection -What we do?

After the completion of national team selection, 12  football enthusiasts will be selected for further training to participate in Street Child World Cup in Moscow. The seven months training program will be introduced where professionals will support and motivate these street children to play a better game to have meaningful participation in the World Cup. These children will be provided with other awareness and skill development workshops and programs. Every two month one awareness program will be organized on different topics such as child rights, the importance of education, empowerment through sports, Negative effects of drug abuse, Sexual and Reproductive Health and Rights, Gender Equality, and related topics. Whereas, some outreach programs like tour program or excursion visit and intensive training will be organized to strengthen street children knowledge and attitude to children and youths areound the country.

Finally, 9 street children will depart to Moscow in May 2018 to participate in „Street Child World Cup‟ and represent Nepalese street children in international competition. Finally, this project tries to strengthen the social, individual and mental status of street children and continuously lobby among government and the international community on investing on the different module to improve the status of street children in Nepal. Advocacy programs, campaigns and social media coverage will be done to develop lobby for rescue, protection and management of street children in more effective manner.
Rio World Cup 2014

The main goal of the project “Hami Pani Sakchhaun” is to engage street children of Nepal in developing their sports skills and transform them as a role model for creating a positive attitude for other street children.

It is important to inoculate in street children the feeling that they are not unwanted human beings. They also have the equal opportunity to develop their personal skills and also can make a positive change in a society like other normal children.

POST WORLD CUP

Innovative campaign will be launched to change the perception of people towards street children and pressure group will be created to introduce better policy and implementation for the empowerment of street children living in urban areas of Nepal. These ambassadors will also engage themselves for providing motivation and lesson learnt to other street children.

FINANCIAL ASPECTS: WHY WE NEED YOUR FINANCIAL SUPPORT

WHY £15000?

Shelter Ashraya Nepal is a small non-profit organization which was a major victim of the earthquake in Nepal in May 2015 losing all its property and resources.
http://shelternepal.org/album?album=Rising%20From%20The%20Rubbles
We cannot afford to use our core fund for the World Cup as it could put the future of many children at risk as we have very limited resources to funds. However, we cannot miss this huge opportunity and have been lobbying with many corporate and non-profits to support us in this movement. The funds raised from this campaign will be used as follows:

1.Team sponsorship figure of £7,200 (£600 x 12particpants ) to cover the participation fee which is to be paid to the organizers
Registration fee can be verified with the organizers
https://www.streetchildunited.org/contact-us/

2. The flight costs for the participants to and from Moscow in 2018. (£500 x 12 = 6000)Approx.
3.IDs, passports and visas for the team.
Travel & medical insurance policy for the trip to Moscow( £1800)

The entire logistic cost during the World Cup will be born by the organizers. The remaining cost of the campaigns, the camp, the league, the training, kits are born by Shelter Ashraya Nepal with little support of few organizations and individuals.

When Shelter Ashraya Nepal was selected for the World Cup we were strictly checked upon our Child Protection and safeguarding policy and our Financial, anti-Fraud and Bribery Policy and were given confirmation after we submitted all our documents so we are very keen on these matters.

Cross-cutting themes

Youth Involvement:

Youths will be mobilized while implementation stage of the project for example in organizing National level street children football tournament. The roles and responsibility of children and youths will be very high in the successful accomplishment of the project as they are the major beneficiaries of the project.

Child protection:

Ensuring that children have access to the sports materials is a priority for the project. The safety of the children is very important for the successful accomplishment of the project; thus, the project will incorporate all means to ensure child safety in its action. According to the „Shelter – Child Safeguarding Policy‟ every child will be given equal status and equal opportunity to participate in the program organized by Shelter.

Environment:
In every action of the project, efforts will be made to mitigate environmental impact. The street children will be provided with the training programs to save the environment and they will also learn how to manage the waste produced during the games and training.

Fair play:
We promote fair play and it is very important that all the participant children follow this idea. Also, street children will be taught to respect the rules and treated equally to their colleague. We will try to avoid and solve the conflict (if occurred) to consolation and forgiveness.

Monitoring and Evaluation

The development of project action plan which will execute clear concept and action of the project will be the first indicator of the project effectiveness in the process of project preparation. Project coordinator and two project officers will work for conducting activities and organizing programs as per the project need. They will be managing the collaboration between different institutions and organizations working for and with the children. The proper monitoring for the project will be done by the board of directors of the Shelter. As, this project consists of multiple of donors and partner agencies, feedback from organizations will be given high priority for monitoring of the project. Every action will be documented and the documentation will be kept safe.
Before heading towards Moscow, the team will conduct Mid-Evaluation of the project. And after the completion of the project, End-Evaluation and outcome assessment will be conducted. Shelter will conduct internal evaluation developing a proper methodology for evaluation, but external evaluation can also be conducted as per the need of partner agency.

Let us unite for the street children using football to bring street-connected children together in a safe space where they can be seen and their voices heard – on a level playing field. Let us use the power of football to raise awareness and tackle the widespread stigma street children face, inspiring countries, governments and communities to better protect, respect and support street-connected children worldwide.

LET US MAKE SURE NO CHILD SLEEPS ON THE STREET
