Rebecca's Road to Recovery

$22,800 of $70,000 goal

This is my beautiful sister in law Becky.  She's smart, loves art and can befriend anyone with her contagious smile.
This fall, she started her freshman year at Western Washington University and while walking back to her dorm on October 27th, she was hit by a car.  Becky was transported to St Joseph's ER by Bellingham Fire Medics, but because the severity of the injury, she had to be airlifted to Harborview Medical Center in order to get the expert care she needs.  The horrific accident left her with a severe traumatic brain injury called diffuse axonal injury.
Everyday brings new excitement with every eye flutter, flinch of the shoulder or wiggling in her toes.
After nearly spending 2 weeks at Harborview in an unconcious state,  God had answered our prayers.  Becky started to open her eyes and showed signs of alertness.
Both of her parents are currently not working in order to be there for her and they need your financial support.
The funds will help with hospital fees and allow Becky to receive the long-term rehabilitation she needs in order to gain back the strength and ability to perform everyday tasks.
We hope with your support, prayers, her willpower and determination, that she can soon be back to her health, so she can have the college experience she dreamed of.
Please consider donating to Becky and her family as they begin this new journey together.

Hello everyone!
Becky was discharged yesterday.
Thank you everyone for taking the time out of your busy life to come visit her, posting well wishes, sending flowers, cards, care packages and just for making her feel special. We couldn't thank all of you enough.
So far, she's doing good. She's still struggling with mobility and is using a walker to get around the house. She will continue to go to rehab 3 times per week. Hopefully soon she can gain enough strength to walk on her own and can be more independent
Thank you for your ongoing support.
We are forever grateful for your love and generosity.

First off all, I would like to express my gratitude towards everyone for your overwhelming support and kindness towards us in this hard time.
Here's a little update on Becky's progress:
Becky is fully awake and can recognize familiar faces.
She struggles with her short-term memory and mobility.
With some assistance, she's now able to take about 10 steps. So that's good progress.
She currently has weakness on the right side of her body, which is the impact from trauma to the nerves of her brain. As you can see, she can't fully open her right eye and she has difficulties using her right hand/arm.
Physical, occupational and speech therapy was initiated on Saturday.
It's anticipated that she'll need daily intensive therapy for at least 2 weeks, in order to gain some strength and improve mobility.
Now that she's fully alert, she's very self conscious of her looks. It has been difficult for her to accept that, all of the sudden she has to face all these obstacles, and struggles with simple tasks she was able to do prior to the accident.
Please continue to keep her in your thoughts and prayers.
If you are in the Seattle area and is near Harborview, then please stop by to say hello to Becky. She loves having visitors. She could also use some encouragements to help her get through this tough process.
Once again, on behalf of the family, I would like to thank everyone from the bottom of my heart. Thank you so much for your generosity.
