Codys Funeral Expenses

This is my little brother Cody Monroy.  He is 23 years old.  He is on life support with no brain activity and swelling/bleeding in his brain.  The doctors say his prognosis doesn’t look good.  The likelihood of Cody coming back from this is very rare and why I’m planning ahead.  Cody has no life insurance and for those of you who know my family you know that my family struggles as it is.

It breaks my heart to tell you Cody was an addict.  He wasn’t always this way though.  Almost two years ago my brother started using heroin.  Shortly after he slowly lost everything becoming homeless and living in his car until he lost that too.  Before becoming a user my brother was the person who helped people.  He called me countless times to talk about the homeless people he bought a meal, gave a ride or helped with something they needed.  He was my little brother but I looked up to him.

A few days before Easter 2018 my brother reached out for help.  The withdrawals were terrible.  I’ve never seen someone in so much pain.  His record caught up to him and he was arrested a day after trying to get clean. Let me tell you what a relief it was for me to know my brother was safe in jail.  Cody spent his time in jail till August 7, 2018 when he was transferred to a rehab in Petoskey, MI; a 90 day program that he chose to do.  Fear got the best of him and he bailed.  (Attached is a picture of him on his way to rehab).
On Friday night, September 7th, my brother overdosed.  He had no opioids in his system.  The hospital believed the overdose to be from a synthetic laced with a strong cut of fentanyl on top of the blood infection that was discovered.  September 8th at 8 A.M. my brother didn’t recognize me and could barely speak (due to infection/memory loss- for a moment they were considering meningitis).  As the day went on my brother gained his memory and strength back.  The hospital wanted to keep him to treat his blood infection but he signed himself out September 9th shortly before 8 A.M.   With his anxious mind and the withdrawals he was experiencing there no talking him into staying for treatment.

Shortly before 10 A.M., not even 2 hours later my dad found my brother on his knees in puke unconscious without a pulse.  My dad did CPR but was unable to revive him.  EMS revived my brother’s heart.  He is on life support and not able to breathe at all on his own.  I’m asking for all friends and family to help in anyway possible so my brother can have a proper service.  Some of you may judge him being a user but if you truly knew Cody you know that he had a heart of gold and he was a special person in this world.   I pray for a miracle.  I really do.  I’m not ready to lose my brother. I know no one ever is. I will keep everyone updated on here and all funds will be used for my brother.  He will be leaving behind 3 children. All sons.  One who was born today (Cameron Leon I believe is his name) 9/9/18. Thank you all for taking the time to read this.
