Billerica Memorial Peace Garden

My name is Debbie Rowland and in September of 2017 I lost my son Jesse to the opioid epidemic.   Jesse was an advocate for peace, and had a love for all things beautiful in the world. He had a special ability to transform ugliness into beauty through music, art, writing, and self-expression. His presence brought hope, love, and light to everyone he interacted with. His kindness, generosity, and wisdom beyond his years made the world a better place, no matter how great his suffering became.  In the end, Jesse wasn't able to find peace in this world. In honor of his memory and his mission, I am looking for a parcel of land to become a public Peace Garden dedicated to all of those who have fallen victim to the opioid crisis in our town. Our plan is to beautify the land with benches, trees, flowers, a water feature, and a dedicated memorial.  The garden, when completed, will carry on Jesse’s message of peace. It will be a safe haven where anyone can sit, reflect in solitude, play music, and read.  It will be a place of remembrance and celebration for those who have lost loved ones to the opioid epidemic, and for those who are battling addiction themselves. The opioid epidemic has hit our community hard, and will continue to do so for the foreseeable future.  It is our hope that by showing others they are not alone in their grief and experiences, the Peace Garden will restore a sense of community to our town, and will offer hope and purpose to those who are still struggling with addiction. We would greatly appreciate any amount you are able to contribute toward the construction of the Peace Garden.
