On , March 28, 2017, Reverend Dr. Hattie L. Downer, a pioneer and pilgram of world-wide missionary work and the Founder of the Cathedral of Joy Church of God in Brooklyn NY, passed away at the age of 102. This go fund me campaign is an effort to maintain her legacy and love of youth and education.
Dr. Hattie L. Downer has always believed that education is a major source of empowerment for all people and has dedicated her life to equipping others for success. In 2002, a scholarship fund was established to acknowledge the academic achievements of young people. The scholarship was instituted in honor of Reverend Downer's lifelong mission and commitment to help others learn.
Initially, the foundation established a program that purchased savings bonds to provide to students attending an accredited colllege full- time. During Reverend Downer's 95th birthday celebration,
the church agreed to modify the savings bond gift to a monetary grant.
The Reverend Dr. Hattie L. Downer Scholarship Foundation is funded by both personal and corporate
financial contributions. Donations are accepted to help support Reverend Downer's dreams of seeing
every child, specifically those under- priviledged, achieve their academic goals. To qualify, a student who has been accepted into a University must submit a scholarship application and maintain at minimum a 2. 5 GPA.
Previously, the Scholarship Foundation was funded by donations made to Dr. Downer during birthday celebrations and special events.
With the loss of our Founder, the Cathedral of Joy Christian Center is establishing a tree of life to honor Dr. Downer's Legacy and to continue funding the scholarship program. You are encouraged to make a donation to keep her legacy alive.
All donations are greatly appreciated.
In addition, Individuals, Groups and Corporations may purchase personalized, engraved leaves to be added to the legacy tree on display at the Cathedral of Joy Christian Center in Brooklyn NY.
