We have all experienced that moment when we hear those ambulance sirens & see the flashing lights coming down the road. The not knowing what is wrong, and why the pain is so severe when you try to move..
As equestrians, each of us risk our safety each time we put a foot in that stirrup, and yesterday at the show we witnessed our worse fear. A loose horse with a saddle & bridle on galloping around. We all know what that can mean, we either have a jailbreak, or someone is on the ground injured. The next quesion is, where is the rider & what just happened? I was truly moved by the quick thinking & kindness of others helping our friend. Shannon Napier who is a fire fighter and an angel for taking immediate action as she helped our friend Rebecca. Lyndon Rife and crew immediately catching the horse, and taking care of it, even offering to take him to their place... Liz Cary sprinting to fetch ice, and an umbrella to give shade in the blazing Texas heat. April Breanau for caring for Rebecca and her horses at home...
We are a close knit group, like an equestrian family, we help each other, that’s just what we do. This rider, Rebecca Algar, is a part of our family here, and needs our help. She was rushed to the emergency room and has 3 broken ribs, and an injured shoulder. But the story doesn’t end there. You see, in the past year Rebecca has had 2 heart attacks, and was diagnosed with PAF, (Persistant Arrythimic Fibrillation). Basically her heart beat isn’t like ours, and it causes her to be breathless most days. In her words, “the cardogram looks like a kids drawing, lol, (she laughs).” With no health insurance she has lost almost everything. She has no car, and is staying with a friend at the moment.
Rebecca is a wonderful fellow horse trainer, it’s what she does for a living. That horse she was riding yesterday is a clients horse, and I can’t imagine trying to tack up a horse let alone trying to ride one when you’re very breathless due to your heart condition, can you? Or even walking to the barn, mucking stalls for that matter, feeding, all the daily things we do and take for granted that we are able to do without a problem. But, she works anyway, because we all have to eat and get by.
Rebecca is a lovely lady, and was the first to help us when we were raising funds for Make A Wish we were working on. That young lady that wanted a horse and tack for her Make a Wish, Rebecca donated many things to help us make that happen.
Money is like muck, not good except it be spread. It’s a privilege to be fellow participants in “Bearing one another’s burdens” because sometimes we’re one of the strong ones forming a circle. And sometimes we’re one of the broken ones inside..
Please share this, donate anything you can, even if it’s only $10. Help us help her get back on her feet, she’s a wonderful lady, and a dear friend to many.
