THIS IS OUR STORY

Our church building on Main Street in Riverhead, which is on the Registry of Historic  Structures, has recently endured a near collapse.  This beautiful sanctuary, built in 1908, suffered severe structural damage  and would have caved in had emergency support bracing not been installed.

First Congregational is an integral part of Riverhead. It shares its Fellowship Hall hosting Bread and More INN soup kitchen (the only soup kitchen in Riverhead) three nights a week and opens its doors to a variety of support groups. This congregation’s roots have been embedded on Main Street for more than 180 years.

Last winter, the church noticed a crack along the ceiling. As the winter progressed, so did the crack. It became a gap that got bigger, slowly and steadily. We were concerned that the wall could collapse and would destroy the 15 foot stained glass window.  All of the stained glass windows and doors were dedicated by many of the Riverhead founding members, names such as Griffing, Young, Wells, Hubbard and Terry.

Provided that we secure matching grants, our estimated cost for proper repairs to save the building is approximately $250,000.  We are asking for your help so we can save our sanctuary.

With those who have already given generously, we’re hoping you too will say, “Count Me In. This church matters.”   No gift is too small (and God knows, none too big.) All gifts are tax-deductible. Please give what you can.
