Help an Injured Racer save his Home

Donation protected
On October 25, 2013, my life was changed forever. We were at the Montgomery Motorsports Park, Montgomery, AL, testing a brand new car. We were getting ready to entertain the racers and spectators at the Southern Outlaw Pro-Mod race. This was the first 1/4 mile pass for a brand new, ‘41 Willy’s,  jet-powered door-slammer. The car launched and drove really well, and really straight down the track.  I ran a 7.07 @ 220mph. At chute deployment, the nose lifted and the car went airborne. Spectators said the car flew 60-feet in the air. Luckily, the car never rolled, the driver’s door blew off, and I landed on all fours. At the landing, the left front wheel and suspension was knocked off, putting me in the left guardrail. I ran almost 1,000 feet down the guardrail at probably 180 mph. I remember the sparks from the roll cage/guardrail ‘swirling’ in my lap! When the car finally came to a stop, I knew I had to get out. A lot of jet drivers burn to death and I didn’t want that! I knew I still had 15-20 gallons of fuel in the tank(that was in the cockpit with me). I got my gloves, seatbelts, HANS device and helmet off, then pushed myself out, over the guardrail.  I was laying in the grass when the safety crew got there.
I was lucky to survive. And now, I’m lucky to be walking. I broke my back in three places(two compression fractures and a ‘burst’ fracture),  broken sternum, five broken ribs, broken left ankle(hit the a-piller roll cage down tube at guardrail impact), and a shattered left heel(floorboard at ‘landing’). I was bed-ridden for four months. Having been diagnosed with scholiosis at age 12, my back injuries were even more severe. During that time, the team owner would come to the hospital and tell me ‘if you need anything, let me know’. After about three months, I went by the jet shop on my way to a doctor’s appointment. I told him, ‘look, if you want to help, you could help me financially. I’m about to lose my home.’ He said, ‘ I can’t do that right now’.  Then, he spent 10’s of thousands of dollars to rebuild the car, but not one cent to ‘rebuild’ the driver. I never considered a lawsuit. I understood the dangers when I got in the car. But, sometimes, if your in a position to help, it’s the human thing to do... You learn a lot about people when something like this happens.
After multiple surgeries and months of rehab, I went back to work. I went back in a full back brace. And, I tried. I really tried. I had run a metal fab shop for 15 years at that point and I didn’t know anything but work. I stuck it out for another three years. Until I physically couldn’t do my job any longer. It took me two more years trying to get disability. I finally got it, but after two years of not being able to work, I was in a DEEP hole. Now, I get $1200 a month from SS. That won’t pay my mortgage and utilities. I never imagined having to ask for a hand out. To ask for help. I don’t have any family to turn to(my reunions are at the cemetery). I have two children, both in their 20’s. They’re working to build their own lives. They can’t afford to help me. So, here I am, going against everything I’ve ever known and done, asking, no, begging for help. If I could pay off my mortgage and get some of these collectors off my back, I think I can survive. I never imagined being in this position. I really don’t want to be homeless or even more of a burden on my children. Thanks for any help you can give....
