2016 Police Unity Tour Fundraiser
The purpose of this GoFundme account is to raise money for the family of fallen officer Sgt. Peggy Vassallo, so they can attend and participate in the 2016 Police Unity tour in her honor . Sgt Peggy Vassallo was struck and killed by a vehicle on August 24th 2015 while rendering aid to another driver. Sergeant Vassallo had served with the Bellefontaine Neighbors Police Department for 15 years and had previously served with the St. Louis County Police Department for over 13 years. She is survived by her husband, son, and two grandchildren.
The Police Unity Tour (www.policeunitytour.com) is a 250 mile bicycle ride beginning in Portsmouth, Virginia and ending at the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial in Washington DC to raise awareness about those officers who have died in the line of duty and money for the National Law Enforcement Officer's Memorial.
The funds raised will help the family with travel expenses, food, lodging, registration fees and any excess funds raised will be donated to the Law Enforcement Officers Memorial. Peggy completed the unity tour in 2015, and this year James Peggy’s son, will be following in her footsteps by riding for his fallen mother. Peggy will also be honored by her husband Jim and sister Joy who will be riding in the unity tour as well. Peggy's mother and sister Patty will be attending the memorial ceremony on the last day of the ride. The Barwick Newton was National Police Fund will be assisting with the cost of the hotel and airfare for Sgt Vassallo's mother and sister Patty.
