Who We Are
In 2014, Edward and I met on PoF as complete strangers, went on the nerdiest date at our favourite comic book shop during Free Comic Book Day, and discovered we had about 60 friends in common on Facebook. Three months later, his mom was already calling me his fiancée, and some of my best friends commented that it felt like we had always been together. 11 years later we are married, ridiculous together, and looking for new opportunities.
Finding each other has been some of the greatest luck we've ever had.
The Situation
In April 2025 I flew back to Newfoundland for a family emergency with the help of airmile points and a prayer. I got to reconnect with my family, make some new friends, discover some great opportunities, and, honestly, enjoy the incredible scenery. During my time there, my parents offered to help us find a home in town. The longer I stayed, the more I loved it... and when I got onto the plane to go home I cried. Not because I'd miss it, but because I didn't want to go back to Alberta.
Alberta has not been kind to us. Despite being hard workers, Covid turned our lives upside down. In 2019 I proposed to Edward and we spent the year planning for our wedding... in June 2020. The pandemic ripped our plans to pieces and we weren't even able to have our reception until June 2023. My parents couldn't even attend because we were hoping to have it in 2024, but our hall forced us to use our booking with a month to plan. In 2021 I lost a job I worked for nearly a decade, and have struggled to keep employment since. Shortly after our landlady of 7 years decided to sell our unit, and we had to move out. In April 2022 we moved into a townhouse that seemed too good to be true. That same summer, we both caught the -vid, and our health situations became an uphill battle. And then our townhouse caught up with us. Since we moved in 3 years ago they've raised rent $370CAD. Now I am unemployed again, nearing the end of my EI, and haven't had an interview in 9 months. To top it off, my husband is struggling with burnout while holding up our household.
To be honest, it feels like we are being priced out and pushed out of Alberta.
What Is the Goal?

To move back to Newfoundland. That's it. Edmonton to Newfoundland. We will be staying with my parents until we find a rental or buy a home, I've secured a job. We just need to get there.
If We Don't Meet Our Goals
If we simply can't make our goal, any funds raised will go towards getting us at least to Newfoundland and into savings for a down payment.
If we fail entirely to leave Alberta, any money received will go towards helping us get by and move into a more affordable space while we hope the housing bubble breaks.
If We Meet or Exceed Our Goals
Any money donated will go towards getting us to Newfoundland comfortably and ensuring our new home is what we want it to be.
- Gas - $1000-$1600
- Trailer - Rental $1600
- Hotel/Food - $2000
- H̶o̶u̶s̶e̶ -̶ $̶5̶0̶k̶ -̶ $̶1̶2̶0̶k̶
- R̶e̶p̶a̶i̶r̶s̶/P̶a̶i̶n̶t̶i̶n̶g̶/R̶e̶n̶o̶s̶ -̶ ?̶?̶?̶?̶
We are currently looking into sending our items via shipping, or purchasing a small trailer to tow. I drive a Kia Soul though, so that might not be possible.
How Are We Contributing?
Edward is still working.
I am still looking for work and receiving the last of my EI currently.
We are selling anything we do not wish to drag across the country. If it doesn't spark enough joy to justify the cost of gas it goes on Marketplace or in a garage sale!
I am also an artist and willing to accept commissions.
But Your Parents Are Business Owners. Why Don't They Do This?
My parents own a small business that keeps them going, but they are not rich. I'm sure they will help, but they can't just buy us a house in cash.
What Is The Timeline?
We are looking to buy and move by the end of September 2025. This gives us the summer to pack, sell, and raise funds, get notable repairs done, have a small goodbye get-together with family and friends, and then drive safely across the country before the winter weather hits. If we're lucky, the weather will be beautiful across the country and we will have some good days left to clean up the house, unpack the trailer, and enjoy our new community before we get to experience our first Newfoundland snowstorm.
UPDATE:
We have a moving date of September 28th, 2025.
Thank you for taking the time to read about our dream. We hope you choose or are able to help make it a reality. If you cannot, that's absolutely fine. We love and appreciate all of our family and friends regardless, and if you are a stranger, we simply appreciate you taking the time to read, or even pass our link along.
