Kristy and Joe Witz Family, Hurricane Harvey Victims
My daughter, her husband and two little girls were evacuated from their home north of Houston on Sunday. They left with only a garbage bag containing 3 days’ worth of clothes. Joe rowed them in a pool floatie to a nearby home where they were later rescued by boat and taken to a shelter. They had to wait days for the rain to stop so that they could go home and assess the damage.
This is their front yard on 8/31/17. On Sunday, it was under 3 feet of water. The pile of garbage is from their living room. The pile is growing as they clear out the other rooms. See the pile of wood flooring? They had just finished laying it themselves. The beautiful home that they bought just 1 year ago is now in severe need. They had no flood insurance since they were NOT IN A FLOOD ZONE.
Many of you have reached out to ask how you can help. After much thought and discussion, this seems to be the best avenue. 1100 miles from the place they grew up, Kristy in Cary, IL and Joe in McHenry, IL our family and friends want to help. And they need help. From what they’ve heard, they are likely to get only $5000 from FEMA. We can beat that, right?!?!?! It will take months of tearing out and replacing walls, floors and electrical wiring; replacing beds, furniture and appliances. If you’ve been wanting to help, consider helping someone you know. A young, hard-working family that just want their home back.
