Willie Ortiz

It is with heavy hearts that we share the news of the passing of our dear, Willie Ortiz. Willie was born in Bayamón, Puerto Rico and moved to New York City in 1964 where he met his wife Yvette. Together they created a family that would grow from four children to over 25 grandchildren. Willie was a hard working, dedicated, family man who always provided for the people he loved. Willie served as a Marine in the military and was honorably discharged due to injuries. After the military Willie pursued a career as a maintenance technician. Most notably working at ACES for over 25 years, all the way up until he physically could not work anymore.

In 2015 Willie was diagnosed with prostate cancer. Willie fought hard and underwent various cancer treatments and was able to overcame this battle after a few years. Unfortunately, this would not be his last battle with this terrible disease . Two years ago Willie found out that the cancer had returned. this time he was diagnosed with Esophageal cancer(a form of throat cancer). After throat surgery and removal of a tumor, Willie began chemo and radiation treatment. Eventually this cancer started spreading to his bones and his lungs. Further complications lead to an infection in his blood and clots in his heart. Throughout these difficult years, Willie continued working, he remained positive and would still always lend a helping hand to others. Sadly, Willie could not overcome these health issues and on October 11th 2023, he passed in the hospital with his family by his side.

Due to many years of battling multiple health issues, there are numerous medical bills left behind. In addition to this, funeral and memorial services have been difficult to fund. We are asking for anyone who would like to support us at this time to consider helping by donating to this fundraiser. Any amount is a tremendous help and would mean the world to us in these difficult times.
