My name is Abraham Kalikstein. I will be graduating this June from Aaron School High School. I have autism. However, I am capable of learning. In the right environment with appropriate supports, I have done very well. I have excellent grades. I am good with computers and I like science. I always follow rules. I have worked very hard and I am very motivated to succeed. I would like to go to a college program where I could continue to learn. My long terms goals include being able to live on my own and have a good job that I enjoy and that I'm good at, so I can support myself one day. I also need to learn how to take care of myself such as how to cook, clean, shop, do laundry, travel on my own, cope with transitions and take care of my belongings.
The Vocational Independence Program (VIP) at NYIT will help me reach my goals by giving me the experience of living away from home, with the support and training that will help me succeed in college and teach me how to be more independent.
I was accepted to the program for the upcoming September of 2015. However, the program costs $60,000 for each academic year. I am asking you to help me reach my goal of going to college and learning how to live on my own. Funds donated here will go directly to offset the cost of my education at the NYIT Vocational Independence Program.
