Support Alexander's Family in Crisis

Hi, my name is Alexander Mori. I’m a psychology major at Kean University, with minors in public health and sociology. I’ve worked incredibly hard to maintain a 4.0 GPA and am proud to be a member of several honor societies, including Tau Sigma, Phi Kappa Phi, Psi Chi, and Alpha Kappa Delta.

I’m reaching out during the most difficult time my family and I have ever faced.

I live with my mother, two younger brothers, and our dog. My mother singlehandedly raised the three of us. We have faced many hardships, including abuse by my estranged father, but never felt anything like this before.

Recently, my mother underwent major open abdominal surgery to remove a 25 cm mass, with a long recovery ahead of her. During the same time, we lost all of our savings due to a financial scam. Since then, we’ve fallen behind on our rent and are now six months overdue.

Our landlord has issued an eviction notice, and we’ve been told we must pay the full $15,000 in back rent or risk losing our home.

We’ve reached out for help in every way we can. People we know have offered emotional support, but no one is in a position to help financially. I’ve applied for SNAP benefits, but haven’t received a response. My youngest brother and I have applied to multiple jobs with no luck so far. I’ve also contacted several organizations and lenders for emergency assistance, but have had no success.

I’ve done everything I can to keep us afloat, but I’ve reached a point where I need help beyond what I can do on my own.

This $19,000 will go entirely towards keeping a roof over our heads, paying our back utilities, food, gas for our car, and our dog's vet bills. It will allow my mom to recover safely, give us time to secure work, and allow me to stay in school and continue pursuing a future where I can give back.
