Chauncey Morehouse Tribute Concert

Donation protected
For the very first time since 1927, the music of The Jean Goldkette Orchestra will be filling the hall of The Capitol Theatre in Chambersburg, Pennsylvania.

(The Capitol Theatre today - 2015)

On May 4th, 1927, The Jean Goldkette Orchestra performed a special concert in the hometown of Chauncey Morehouse, who was the drummer for the popular jazz ensemble based out of Detroit, Michigan.  Chauncey lived in Chambersburg from the age of 3 up to when he graduated high school and left to play in dance bands in the early 1920's.  He always returned home to visit his family who lived in the city their entire lives.

Chauncey's music career extended well into the 1970's until he passed away in October of 1980.  He recorded and performed with legends like Bing Crosby, The Dorsey Brothers, Bix Beiderbecke, Frank Trumbauer, The Saturday Night Swing Club Orchestra, and was also a studio musician for NBC Radio.

This very special event is being planned for Wednesday evening, July 22nd, 2015.  This event will be a special one-night performance by The Graystone Monarchs, a 10-piece dance band that specializes in music from the 1920's and 30's.  The concert is in conjunction with the music tour of The Hot Jazz Alliance, a 6-piece jazz ensemble made-up of 4 musicians from Australia, and 2 from the U.S.A.  The group will add 4 musicians to their current line-up for this one-night only performance to pay tribute to The Jean Goldkette Orchestra and Chauncey Morehouse.  This will also be an all-ages family event, with admission being FREE for everyone, or, children admitted free with $5 for each adult.

The Graystone Monarchs will perform music that was heard in The Capitol Theatre in 1927 by the Goldkette Orchestra, as well as other music being played by Chauncey Morehouse during his music career.  It will truly be a night to remember, and a very moving way to honor all these wonderful musicians.

This event will be memorable in the music sense as well as the historical value.  The band will fill the hall with the same hot jazz and dance music that was being heard all those years ago, but they'll also include historical photographs, home movies and other historical information pertaining to Chambersburg, The Capitol Theatre, and life itself in the 1920's.

On a special note, there will be members of Chauncey Morehouse's family attending this concert from New York, Florida, and all other parts of the country.  This will be their first time being in their families hometown, and seeing where their family lived for so many years.

We'll also have a sound engineer recording the entire evening, with the hopes of releasing a special cd featuring music from the concert.

The money being raised for this event will cover the costs for the band, renting the theatre, sound and lighting crew, a souvenir program, and the advertising.  Our hopes are to make this event FREE for everyone if we can raise the total amount in this campaign!

Your name will be listed as a sponsor in our souvenir program, but the dollar amount will not be listed.

We thank you for taking time to read this information about this exciting event in Chambersburg.  We hope you'd consider helping us fund this event so everyone attending the show can honor and pay tribute to one of Chambersburg's own, Chauncey Morehouse.
