Hello,
My name is Jessica, and I am a live-in caretaker for my 73 year-old family member Steve. We are currently being evicted from our apartment because we cannot afford the amount our new landlord has changed to $2200.00 from $1800.00. We live down in the Flint area, and have never had any issues until recently when our rent went up. We have until the end of the month literally January 1st to find an apartment and if not we will be getting a 48 hour notice to leave the apartment.I lost my job due to my vehicle being damaged and an hour away, and Steve hasn’t been able to work due to his on going health issues but Steve is getting better everyday! A proud man who has worked his whole life until his heart attack this year, Steve just had surgery for leaky valves in his heart after his heart attack that left him in the hospital for 2 weeks and then Sarah Brighton for just as long maybe longer, along with needing a hip replacement that is scheduled for June 2025 this summer. Our bills are getting higher and higher. His social security isn't nearly enough for food medicine/rent, I have always had work so we didn’t have to worry about those necessities. Since I wasn’t working the bills have been uncontrollable but I have since been hired for a full time position and hoping to hear back from a 2nd job but time is running out, and we will both be on the streets very soon. We have applied for housing and every type of assistance imaginable and my roommate ACTUALLY received RAFT!!! Thank God but we only have days to find an apartment that we can bring our cat and dog to. Very well behaved animals never been a problem, up to date on shots and both spay and neutered but not many landlords want to give us a chance with the animals. There’s such a large homeless crisis/housing shortage. And it breaks my heart to see so many on the streets with and without their animals. We just need someone to give us a chance please!!! We are both extremely embarrassed to ask for help, but we don’t have a choice or family that can help. Both my parents passed away very young, and Steve truly is one of the only family members I have. I am trying to do everything in my power to help keep him safe and healthy while we try the courts again and find a home. Hoping we can get at least a extension to give us more time. Paying the rent at this apartment and trying to save for first, last, and security deposit and trying to fix my vehicle all at the same time as shut-off notices pile up feels like we’re drowning. Thankfully with the RAFT that will help with the heavy amount 1st last & security deposit and we can swing the rest .I’m am hoping to hear good news with my vehicle Anything anyone could help us with would be so greatly appreciated. It would change our lives. It truly would. Any money we have received or will will be put towards moving expenses/bills/ medications for Steve while we pray to find our way out of this mess.
Thank you so very much for taking the time to read our story during the most devastating time of our lives. We thank you all, Much Love &
- Appreciation. Thank you to our wonderful friends and new friends we never met that helped us during this difficult time.
