Hello everyone,

I never imagined I would be writing something like this, but our family truly needs support during this incredibly difficult time.

My dad lives in Mexico, while my sisters and I live in New York. In the 1990s, my parents immigrated to the United States in search of a better life for their family. Because of the immigration system, my dad spent many years unable to return home. During that time, he made countless sacrifices and missed many important moments — including his own father’s funeral — all so he could provide better opportunities for his three daughters.

My dad lived in the U.S. for nearly 20 years. Once he knew that all three of his daughters were grown, stable, and doing well, he made the painful decision to return to Mexico in 2012, knowing that coming back to the United States would likely not be possible. Since then, he has been living back home surrounded by loved ones.

Recently, my dad became very sick. It started with muscle weakness, slurred speech, and difficulty walking. He was taken to a doctor and was initially misdiagnosed with Guillain-Barré Syndrome. He was given medication and sent home, and for a short time, he seemed to be doing better. Unfortunately, his condition has taken a sudden and devastating turn for the worse.

He is now extremely weak, barely able to walk, and his speech has deteriorated to the point where it is very hard to understand him. When he was taken back to the hospital, he was left sitting in the emergency room for four days. After imaging was finally done, doctors discovered a mass in his lung. He now needs multiple urgent studies and further imaging to understand the extent of his condition, including a biopsy that may require transportation to another state.

The medical system where he lives is deeply flawed. Appointments are not scheduled with any urgency unless they are paid for upfront, and every test, study, and transfer comes at a high cost. As heartbreaking as it is to say, it feels like money is the only way to get my dad the care he desperately needs.

We are facing mounting medical expenses, testing costs, transportation, and ongoing care, and we know this is only the beginning of a long road ahead.

I am humbly asking for help from family, friends, and anyone who feels moved to support us. Nunca imaginé que tendría que escribir algo así, pero nuestra familia realmente necesita apoyo durante este momento tan difícil.

Mi papá vive en México, mientras que mis hermanas y yo vivimos en Nueva York. En la década de los 90, mis padres emigraron a los Estados Unidos en busca de una vida mejor para su familia. Debido al sistema de inmigración, mi papá pasó muchos años sin poder regresar a su país. Durante ese tiempo hizo innumerables sacrificios y se perdió muchos momentos importantes, incluyendo el funeral de su propio padre, todo con el objetivo de brindarnos mejores oportunidades a sus tres hijas.

Mi papá vivió en los Estados Unidos por casi 20 años. Una vez que supo que sus tres hijas ya eran adultas, estables y estaban bien, tomó la difícil decisión de regresar a México en el 2012, sabiendo que volver a entrar a los Estados Unidos probablemente no sería posible. Desde entonces, ha estado viviendo en su tierra natal, rodeado de sus seres queridos.

Recientemente, mi papá comenzó a enfermarse. Todo empezó con debilidad muscular, dificultad para hablar y problemas para caminar. Fue llevado al médico y inicialmente fue diagnosticado incorrectamente con el síndrome de Guillain-Barré. Le administraron medicamentos y lo enviaron a casa, y por un corto tiempo parecía estar mejorando. Lamentablemente, su condición ha empeorado de manera repentina y alarmante.

Actualmente, mi papá está extremadamente débil, apenas puede caminar y su forma de hablar ha empeorado al punto de que es muy difícil entenderlo. Cuando fue llevado nuevamente al hospital, lo dejaron sentado en la sala de emergencias durante cuatro días. Finalmente, después de realizarle estudios de imagen, los médicos descubrieron una masa en su pulmón. Ahora necesita múltiples estudios adicionales para determinar la gravedad de su condición, incluyendo una biopsia que posiblemente tendrá que realizarse en otro estado, lo que requeriría su traslado.

El sistema médico donde él vive está profundamente afectado. Las citas no se programan con urgencia a menos que se paguen de manera privada, y cada estudio, prueba y traslado tiene un costo muy elevado. Con mucho dolor, parece que el dinero es la única forma de que mi papá pueda recibir la atención médica que necesita con urgencia.

Estamos enfrentando gastos médicos cada vez mayores, costos de estudios, traslados y cuidados continuos, y sabemos que este es apenas el comienzo de un camino largo y difícil.

Con mucha humildad, estoy pidiendo ayuda a familiares, amigos y a cualquier persona que se sienta movida a apoyarnos. Cualquier donación, por pequeña que sea, será destinada directamente a ayudar a mi papá a recibir atención médica oportuna y obtener respuestas. Si no pueden donar, compartir esta página o mantener a nuestra familia en sus oraciones también significa muchísimo para nosotros.
