Education at Brown University

Hi, my name is Mikai Spencer and I am a senior at St. Paul's School in Concord NH.

 

I recently was admitted into Brown University in the Class of 2026! As exciting as the news was to hear, my family and I realised that the financial package we received from Brown wasn't enough to pay for tuition each year. I have siblings who are all attending school currently and it is hard to continue my education knowing the impact it may have on my other family members. It is such an amazing opportunity to have been accepted into such a prestigious university and be able to explore the next steps in my college journey. However any assistance I could be afforded would be an amazing help in easing the financial and psychological burden of debt and student loans. I am asking that anyone that is in a position to help to please do so because it would mean the world to me.

 

My primary area of focus while in college will be Acting because I find the profession to be endlessly fascinating and intellectually stimulating. I love the formation and critical thinking that comes with acting technique. My passion for Theatre quickly matured into a dynamic and introspective experience that I had never been challenged with before. I learned what became so natural and fun for me could evolve into an inspiring devotion. At Brown, I would also be excited to fulfill my other passions and interests that I may not have been able to pursue anywhere else.

 

As fundamentally enriching a college experience can be, I know many forget the ongoing crisis that our world is facing in many facets of society. Hunger, underfunded education, homelessness, racism and many other issues still reside in our own communities and even though we may not be exposed to it everyday, there are still millions of people in need of care and support. I hope to continue some of my efforts of social justice and change at Brown in hopes that others who require financial aid to fulfill their dreams can do so without the same burden.
