Our amazing friend and coworker, Olive Valentin was recently diagnosed with cervical cancer in July of this year. Whether you've known Olive for years or for only a few minutes, you know that she's a go-getter with a heart of gold - not to mention one of the funniest people around with her hilarious one-liners and witty comebacks. And even with this life-changing news she is still very much the same person, but she could use our help.
Olive was born and raised in a small town outside Navan, Farganstown (only an hour from Dublin) where she got her start working in hospitality in a small hotel. But as the youngest of 12, Olive already had the know-how to be successful. Combine this with the quick wit she got from her father and her kind and caring heart from her mother, and there is nothing Olive couldn't do. And 17 years ago, she dreamed big and made the leap to New York.
Olive has touched many people over the years both in her hometown in Ireland and here in NYC. She is always able to see the positive side of something, is the kind of person who lights up the room as soon as she enters, and when someone is having a bad day, Olive is there to make them smile. And lucky for him, Olive found Eric Valentin a caring, loving, passionate man, whom she wed in 2010.
Olive's July diagnosis has not been an easy pill to swallow - it's stage 4. She began chemo immediately after being diagnosed, but in order to keep her strength up during this process and frankly the amount of germ exposure one deals with when working in hospitality, her doctor recommended she stop working. While Olive is fortunate enough to have health insurance, we all know there are plenty of expenses that will begin to add up.
Our goal is to raise as much money as possible to help relieve the burden of these expenses and keep her stress at a minimum while she's in treatment. We hope you can help our dear friend. A little can go a long way.
