Jenny Paradis, better known online as TubaDiva, administered the Straight Dope Message Board for nearly 25 years. During that time she oversaw a global volunteer staff, mediated countless squabbles, dealt with balky technology, and generally kept things going on one of the Internet's most raucous and enduring online communities. In the process she touched thousands of lives, earning the respect and admiration of many and, inevitably, ticking off a few. In her spare time she played the tuba, one of her great joys since her high school band days, and was an active participant in the amateur music scene in her native Atlanta.
Jenny's many friends were shocked and saddened to learn of her untimely passing. It seemed to us a fitting tribute to her memory would be to establish a fund to purchase a suitably inscribed tuba and/or other musical instrument(s) for a high school in the Atlanta area, enabling a new generation to share in her love of music . We're in the process of identifying a worthy institution and hope to have the funds raised by the fall of 2020. Ed Zotti, editor of the Straight Dope and Jenny's boss for many years, will oversee fundraising and handle the necessary details. We hope all who knew and loved Jenny will take the opportunity to give whatever they can.
Rest in peace, TubaDiva, and may your memory always play on.
Jenny's obituary in the Chicago Sun-Times, owner of the Straight Dope:
Jennifer Paradis, who ran Straight Dope Message Board for over 20 years, has died at 65
