Tripp is the smartest, kindest, bravest 14 year old ever! He was born with a form of Dwarfism called SpondyloEpiphyseal Dysplasia Congenita. This form primarily results in issues with the spine/vertebrae and joints. In the last five years has undergone 5 orthopedic surgeries including spinal fusion with a halo in 2012, bilateral femoral osteotomies with a body cast in 2014, and others to place plates in his knees and ankles as well. After an MRI in July it was discovered that his vertebrae are moving again and his spinal cord is "crimped" between C3 and C4. Only 20% of kids who have spinal fusion end up needing an additional surgery. On October 2 they will be extending his current fusion to C4 or C5 and using a bone graft from his hip to do so. While we do not think he will need a halo this time, it is a possibility. Six surgeries in five years...
We are so blessed to have the best surgeons, doctors, and nurses taking care of Tripp at AI Dupont in Delaware. However, traveling over 5 hours away has lots of expenses including gas, food, room and board, and unpaid time off for Tripp's dad. In addition, our only family vehicle is in need of quite a bit of work. One surgery will require at least three trips back and forth to Delaware and having reliable transportation is a necessity.
Our family has gone through several big changes over the last few months and know our God is sovereign and always provides. We have so much to be thankful for including the love, prayers, and support of our amazing friends, family, and community. You are all a part of "Tripp's Tribe" and for that, we are grateful! ❤
