Update on Trevor

First, we want to thank everyone who has supported Trevor and his family over the past several months. Your generosity, encouragement, and kind messages have meant more than words can express.

After making progress in rehabilitation, Trevor experienced additional complications that required him to be transferred to Sunnybrook Hospital. During his stay, he underwent two more surgeries and spent time on strict bedrest while he recovered.

We’re happy to share that Trevor has now been medically cleared to continue his rehabilitation and returned to rehab late last week. He is in the final stretch of his rehabilitation journey before heading home to prepare for the arrival of his baby girl.

While Trevor continues to use a wheelchair, his rehabilitation journey is far from over. Once he returns home, he will continue with outpatient rehabilitation, working toward his goal of walking again—and, one day, getting back on the ice to teach his little one to skate. His determination and positive attitude continue to inspire everyone around him.

Our family is asking for support for someone who would never ask for it himself.

In the past week, our brother/son/friend Trevor experienced a catastrophic ruptured disc that caused paralysis from the waist down. Since then, he has undergone two emergency spinal surgeries and remains in the ICU at St. Michael’s Hospital, fighting through the unimaginable.

We do not yet know what his recovery will look like, but we do know it will be long. The road ahead will include prolonged hospitalization, inpatient rehabilitation, specialized equipment, mobility supports, and likely significant home modifications.

To make this even more overwhelming, he and his partner Emily are preparing to welcome their first baby girl into the world — a time that should be filled with joy, not fear about finances and how they will manage what comes next.

Anyone who knows Trevor knows he is the first person to show up when someone needs help. He would give the shirt off his back, lend a hand without hesitation, and never ask for anything in return. Asking for help does not come naturally to him, which is exactly why we are doing it for him.

Right now, we want finances to be the last thing this family has to think about. We want them focused on healing, on each other, and on preparing for their daughter — not worrying about rehab costs, accessibility needs, equipment, or time away from work.
