Traumatic Accident Recovery Expenses

Donation protected
She will run, and not grow weary. – Isaiah 40:31

Becky Sletto goes by a lot of names – Beckles. Scoops. Sissy. Cordy. Snarlin’ Darlin’. It seems she has just as many nicknames as the ones she doles out to the people she loves. Coming up with inventive ways to show people that she loves them is just one of the ways Becky shines. Whether it’s giving you a nickname, sending you a text to let you know she’s thinking of you, or remembering the most obscure details about your life, you never doubt if Becky cares about you.

Becky has one of the biggest hearts of anyone we know, and on February 11th that heart of hers nearly stopped beating. While riding snowmobile with her friends Becky was involved in a serious accident, the result of which left her fighting for her life. After her life was saved by the quick thinking and emergency first aid skills of Nurse Kasey from Hankinson, ND and the Ashby EMTs, she was life flighted to St. Cloud Hospital. When she arrived she was immediately attended to by both a trauma surgeon and a vascular surgeon. The most pressing issue facing the doctors was that the accident had caused extreme and extensive damage to Becky’s femoral vein, and she had lost 6 units of blood. Thankfully the doctors’ quick action and expertise in attending to the injury, as well as performing a bilateral fasciotomy, were enough to save Becky’s life. The first hurdle was cleared that Saturday evening, but unfortunately for Becky, the hits just kept on coming.

Becky was removed from her ventilator Sunday, February 12th, and underwent further testing. It was then that doctors discovered a compression fracture to her lower spine. Additionally, Becky was finally able to articulate that she was unable to independently move her right thumb. Examination uncovered a severed tendon, and the need for a future surgery to attempt to repair the injury and allow Becky the full use of her hand.

If you don’t know, Becky is a Cosmetologist and Massage Therapist by trade. She has been independently employed as a co-owner of Bombshells Salon & Spa for over 11 years. The injuries she’s facing mean that Becky will be unable to work for an undetermined amount of time – she has a long road of recovery ahead of her. And unfortunately for her this means she has no way to provide for her family.

In the short term there have been generous people who have been able to step in and address immediate needs. Becky has 3 children still at home – ages 16, 9, and 6 – as well as a grown daughter and granddaughter who live nearby. Becky’s eldest daughter, Jade, and Becky’s dad, Papa Tom Schnettler, have stepped in to care for the 3 younger children while Becky is hospitalized, which has been a blessing for Becky and the kids. Her mom and stepdad, Colleen and Arnie Barland, along with Becky’s brother Clif and sister Jackie, have been helping facilitate all the varying support needs and keep everyone up to date.

With the uncertainty of her prognosis and unknown length of recovery, Becky is currently beyond stressed about how she is going to continue living life. Payments for her house, her business, her children’s activities, general living expenses, and support funds for the caregivers as they care for themselves and the kids, are all weighing on Becky’s mind. Knowing this, her family and friends have banded together to provide ways for those who love and have been loved by Becky to help out.

Any donation to this GoFundMe, directly to Becky’s Venmo (@Becky-Sletto), or to Bell Bank in Alexandria in Becky‘s name will be used to help Becky navigate this unbelievably difficult situation. Questions can be directed to her brother Clif Cline and sister Jackie Barland.

On behalf of Becky, we thank you so much for reading her story, and for considering donating to help this wonderful person focus her worry on recovering the best she can.
