Ohana Foundation: Room Makeovers for Foster Kids

Aloha!

I'm Jessica Mullin, Founder/Executive Director of The Ohana Foundation. Our nonprofit (pending approval) provides room makeovers for foster children transitioning into adoptive homes. "Ohana" means "extended family" in Hawaiian, and our mission is to create joyful, comfortable spaces that help children feel they belong.

This cause is deeply personal to me as I was a foster child from ages 12 to 18, moving 14 times. A lot of different people raised me in foster care. My sister, Michelle, helped me decorate each new room, making me feel safe and less alone. Her support was a constant in my turbulent childhood, inspiring the foundation's mission. Although I learned of the word Ohana a few years ago when I resided in Hawaii, I have lived by that concept of family for most of my life.

To fund The Ohana Foundation and its projects, I'm combining my passion for competition with my cause. As a former USAT Athena National Champion and All-American Triathlete, I'm returning to multi-sport after 10 years to race for this mission. My plans include using crowdfunding, social media campaigns, local sponsorships, and fundraising events to raise money before each race. By engaging my community and leveraging these methods, I aim to secure the necessary funds to compete and hopefully win my division, while also supporting a meaningful cause. This approach allows me to share my journey and inspire others to contribute to the effort.

Our $10,000 GoFundMe goal covers seed money, our first room makeover, and triathlon training and racing equipment. Pending 501(c)(3) approval, I'm excited to launch this meaningful endeavor.
